Is Zimbabwe better than Bangladesh at ODI cricket ATM?

Post by zulu »

I thought Id do this post because I feel that Zimbabwe are a much better side now and they are a better side than Bang...If u go back over a year ago Bangladesh were beating Zim easily but our team has improved a hell of alot now weve gained 2 world class players! I mean look how well Zim did in the domestic champs and they didnt embariss themselves in Pakistan either. If you look at bangladesh theyve been hammerd by New Zealend and they had hiding from South Africa on their own soil! if u look at their batting scores they have rarely passed 200! while Zim constantly passed 200 on their tour of pakistan. I think the only way we are going to find out which side is better is if they played eachother in a ODI series and i think it would be a good idea to get 1 sorted and im confident Zim would win it comfortably ;)

I think they are evenly pegged at the moment. I would predict a 3-2 win for us played in Zimbabwe (with a small possibility of a clean sweep ;) ), 2-3 series loss if we played in Bangladesh.

I think that Zim would probably win on home soil, but lose away. I think Zim's batting is stronger than Bangladesh's, although on their day, I think Bangladesh are proably more dangerous. I think Bangladesh's spinners would tie Zim in nots (again) in an way series though...

i think zim would win even away! south africa had no problems against the spin and they are knowen to not play spin well...we would win on bangladeshs current form they have had a shockingly bad series against south africa and my argument is if bangladesh are playing test cricket then zim should definatly be playing! and in my opinion we would beat bangladesh in a test match our batting is alot stronger than theirs

i think Zim would win easy providing everyone was fit. I think what Zim needs to do is start having more Series against the like of Bangl;edesh and ireland and Kenya

They need these series not least to move up the rankings, in which they are languishing at the moment.

I think Zimbabwe would win 3-2 at home but lose 4-1 in Bangladesh, assuming it were a 5 match series.

Zim will beat Bangladesh any day now. If you look at our performances versus South Africa, Pakistan and West Indies, one notices that we constantly go above 200 to 220 but Bangladesh are strugling nowadays to get beyond 170. Tis a fact and though its something one can't use to gauge performances versus different teams its certainly a barometer for performance. I believe we will beat them nowa maybe 4-1 at home and 3-2 away. :P 8-) ;)

I thought it might be interesting to bring this thread back to life after todays result.

The 1st ODI played in Lahore today finished with a 152 run D/L win for Pakistan after the floodlights failed for a while during the 2nd innings.

Pakistan made 322-5 from 50 overs, Mohammad Yousuf 108*, Shoaib Malik 85. Shahid Afridi had one his little knocks at the end with 27* from 11 balls.

In reply Bangladesh struggled to 92-9 before the last pair took them to 129 from 29.5 overs, 3 wickets each for Afridi and Sohail Tanvir.

I seem to remember that the Zim boys gave Pakistan a harder test than this.

its quite strange actually. against the more established sides, zimbabwe seems to play (or at least bat) better than BD. they crossed 200 every time in their PAK tour, whereas BD did post 285 once, but failed in the other 4 matches. then zimbabwe racked up 295 once against SA. however when the two meet face to face, whether on the slowish, turning tracks of BD, or the flat tracks of Zimbabwe, Bangladesh has recently come out on top most often than not. i think a lot of it has to do with the mental aspect: we believe we can beat you and so we usually do. I don't think zimbabwe believe they can beat bangladesh except for the odd upset here or there.

BD have since knocking India over at Dhaka on Boxing Day 2004, beaten the top 8 sides 7 times out of about 60 odd games, translating to a win every 9th match or so. perhaps if zimbabwe played more matches against the top sides, they'd win a few more too.

Bangladesh is way ahead on bowling strength, mainly due to their spinners, whereas the pace bowling department is more evenly matched, with the edge being indeterminate. On batting, its also relatively even, except when they play each other.

it will be interesting to see how the zimbabwe batsmen approach the South African bowlers tomorrow and if they fare better than they did in BD. based on previous trends, i would think the batters would do better, but the bowlers will probably take a beating.

best of luck from a BD fan!!!
