No mention of a certain Mr Coventry, which doesn't seem right to me...

That's just stupid. He's now joint record holder with Anwar. Surely he deserves a mention. It's not every day that kind of score is reached, especially by a Zimbabwean.

...and the cynic in me says that's precisely why it wasn't mentioned.sloandog wrote:especially by a Zimbabwean.

Just look at the pannel, Boycott, Chapell, Greig and Roabuck. No chance that any of them would ever give a vote to a Zimbabwean based on what they have said about us in the past.
The only two international commentators/Journolists who seem to be giving us any praise are Martin Williamson and Neil Manthorpe, the rest of them are blind to Zimbabwe cricket.
Oh well we have a chance in the West Indies to prove a point!!!

Here here !! Well said Zimfan1. I think Pommie Mbangwa and Robin Jackman give Zimbabwe praise when comentating. I was whatching the India/South Africa series and Jackman mentioned how Zimbabwe are on the rise. But yeah like you say, there's not enough recognition for our youngsters from Zimbabwe. We now have a chance to show the cricketing world that we can beat the big sides, and that we can compete at the international level. I've got a good feeling about this tour, perhaps the only worry is that of Kemar Roach. Not many of our players are used to facing 90-95mph. But we've got the talent and hard hitting duo of Taylor and Mazakadza upfront. Hopefully they can teach this youngster that pace isn't everything.zimfan1 wrote:The only two international commentators/Journolists who seem to be giving us any praise are Martin Williamson and Neil Manthorpe, the rest of them are blind to Zimbabwe cricket.

Thats lovely. We need more people talking up the developments in Zimbabwe.sloandog wrote:I was whatching the India/South Africa series and Jackman mentioned how Zimbabwe are on the rise.
I'm not too sure about Pommie. Yes, he does know a lot about the current crop of players from Zim, but he rarely comments about Zim cricket, even on twitter, most of his updates are about SA team and the domestic setup of SA. You can't really complain as he is employed there, but could have continued to follow the happenings in Zim.
As for the contest, top 5 were short listed from this list: http://www.cricinfo.com/awards2009/cont ... 43285.html
Here, the first name was Coventry. But true, none in the panel would have realized the effectiveness of that knock, or that of Tamim Iqbal for that matter.

I know the reason why coventry is not there, the panel awards point on how much point player get when he played that match.coventry played that match, but did't make any impact on that match.

Yes, I agree that impact is an important factor, but the quality of the knock is important too. And I watched all 3 of these knocks: TMD, SRT and Coventry. And let me tell you, they were all top class, played under immense pressure. So, it hurts when one of these 3 innings misses out just because the jury has no time to take a deeper look at that.
What impact did Tendulkar's 175 and TMD's 160 have? India and Srilanka lost those matches.jamthala wrote:I know the reason why coventry is not there, the panel awards point on how much point player get when he played that match.coventry played that match, but did't make any impact on that match.

I wonder how many of you voted for that list. I certainly did.CrimsonAvenger wrote: As for the contest, top 5 were short listed from this list: http://www.cricinfo.com/awards2009/cont ... 43285.html
It was a top class knock and the way he hit those clean strikes at the end battling with cramp was phenomenal.
