Trevor penny

Post by sloandog »

So, in the style of the Graeme Hick thread, can anybody shed some light on Trevor Penny? Was he ever selected to play for any Zimbabwe age group sides growing up, or was he always destined for England and the county system? I believe he came back quiet a bit didn’t he to play FC cricket?

No, he got into various age group teams and actually captained a sort of Rest of the World side in the Under-19 World Cup before Zimbabwe achieved Test status. He also played just a few matches for Zimbabwe in first-class and one-day cricket before going to Warwickshire - I don't remember the details of that. But, unlike Hick, he did at least come back here during the English winters for quite a long time to coach, play club cricket and bring much-needed quality kit with him.

All good lads. If I’m not mistaken Trevor was considered by many to be amongst the best fielders in the world for quite some time. He was also a brilliant squash player at school. I don’t know too much about his cricket though.
I’m sure he had a long relationship with Preity Zinta or one of those Bollywood ladies that own an IPL team.
Look at the personnel we have that are still actively involved at the highest levels, it’s pitiful and shameful.

I recall England used him as a specialist 12th man fielder in the 2005 Ashes :x

Yes, one of the best, and still is. I met him most recently when he was the fielding coach with the recent Sri Lanka team.
