A sparkling 63 not out from Mandisi Moyo led Tuskers Under-19 to a one wicket victory against the much fancied Mashonaland Eagles 1 side.
After winning the toss and electing to bowl on a helpful pitch, Tuskers opening pair of Atish Chouhan and Kyle Bowie had the Eagles batsmen on the back foot from ball one with some accurate bowling.
The only meaningful contribution came from number three batsman Baxton Gopito who batted almost the entire innings for 51. His only real support came from James Bruce who hit an aggressive 29. Bowie, Kapil Chouhan, Kevin Kandala and Fungai Murehwa all got two wickets.
After surviving a hostile opening for the loss of one wicket, Tuskers then strolled to victory. Moyo at three found ample support in captain Brian Chari (22) not out and opener Tawanda Nyanga (22).
In the other two games of the day, a surprise visit from CEO Phillip Senzani appeared to have the desired effect as Mountaineers — bowled out for 38 the previous day— made a tournament high 236 with K Kasuza top scoring with 80 on their way to a 129 run victory over Southern Rocks. B Dawes was the pick of the bowlers with five wickets.
Eagles Two restored some pride to the franchise with an easy victory over hapless Rhinos. Rhinos were skittled out for 122, George Banda top scoring with 36. Lesley Murombedzi’s 29 was the top score in the Eagles chase.
The tournament continues tomorrow with Tuskers looking to continue their unbeaten run taking on Mountaineers, Eagles 2 meet Southern Rocks and Eagles 1 taking on winless Rhinos.

It is important to stand up for what is right.
