Tuskers dump Brown for Houghton, Streak

Post by shumbat »

MATABELELAND Tuskers have dumped coach Robin Brown and replaced him with former Zimbabwe cricket stars Dave Houghton and Heath Streak.
Houghton will be the head coach with Streak his assistant. The successful-as-players duo will be expected to turn around the fortunes of the region’s cricket flagship — Matabeleland Tuskers — who were pipped to the honours by Mountaineers last season.
This was revealed yesterday by the Tuskers chief executive officer, Stanley Staddon, who said they were looking forward to better fortunes.
He was quick to highlight that Brown had not been fired but his contract had run out. However, he has been assigned to take charge of the under-19 side.
Staddon said following the expiry of Brown’s contract they had held thorough reviews aimed at ensuring that when the season starts in August they would have a strong team in place.
“We have appointed Dave Houghton as our coach. He will be assisted by Heath Streak and they should take charge of the team for pre-season camp before the commencement of the championship in August.
“The technical team we have assembled is one that we are sure will deliver the goods. We want to end the season at the top. I have to state that we did not fire Brown but his contract with us was up so we went separate ways. He has since been re-assigned to take charge of the national Under-19s, he has been redeployed e... ...

When i saw this article a week ago, was a bit concerned about the conflict of interest it may bring, Streak coaching Tuskers and then the national team. Tuskers players are going to benefit a lot and get more chances of getting in the national team. I think Houghton and Streak should have been used more in a high perfomance centre working with all players around the franchise who are knocking at the door to get into the Zim squad.

That's a great shout. They should have been appointed in the High Performance centre as younger players like Waller, Mutizwa, Meth, Chitara etc could really benifit from it in the long run.
Not a good move in my own opinion....

Double-jobbing not unusual in Zim. Case in point: Stephen Mangongo, Mountaineers coach and 'A' coach last season.

Thats true Maehara, is it because we lack the expertise, even though, i still think we got a lot of ex players, who can coach, who are just not being given the chance to develop. I'm from Masvingo, could do with GF coaching the Southern Rocks, if double jobbing is the trend.

I mentioned this issue of double jobbing in another earlier post (http://bit.ly/c8Jz8q) and was also a bit concerned. I guess it will be like this for a few years to come until more people have confidence in Zim Cricket and make themselves available.

Streak will have daily access to both Mpofu and Blignaut, surely that should benefit the national team.

Dont think so as Coventry is often ignored.
