But in the 90's our side had a handful of genuine test match talents. (Streak, Flower, Houghton and Murray Goodwin). Our current crop have the potential to be even better than them, fact ! The future is so bright

I don't think zim are yet anywhere near to test cricket.they yet cant compete with teams in test matches.I am sure they be really struggled in overseas conditions.they need to send their teams more to overseas conditions so that their players can get some skills.but for me they will take 10 to 15 years to be competent in test matches.

Thats a bit harsh, 10 years is a long time, especially considering the talent coming through at the moment and the sort of coaches that are coming to the fore in Zim. In 10 years Zim will be better than Bangla and the west indies, pehaps even pakistan looking at their domestic structures and players.

10 Years is fat too harsh !
Like Lostart said, we've got oodles of talent poring into the domestic scene now, and it would be crazy not to use it in the test arena. Exciting times ahead for sure

The problem is we don't really know how talented many of these players are. Our cricketers are rarely tested outside of Africa or in longer formats. Many of our players havent even played test cricket and those who have are fairly inexperienced - Brendan Taylor for example has only played 10 Tests. I think we have a long way to go before we are even competitive against most test playing countries - West Indies and Bangladesh are the only ones we could perhaps challenge at the moment.

I think another way to look at it is how many of our players would be selected for other countries teams?
Neil Johnson, Alistair Campbell, Murray Goodwin, Andy Flower (w), Grant Flower, Dave Houghton, Guy Whittall, Heath Streak (c), Andy Blignaut, Ray Price, Eddo Brandes

well they can compete to Bangladesh and even windies in their home conditions but it will take them long time to be competitive in overseas conditions. for that they needed to send their juniors teams regularly overseas.

I think we should have more guys playing in the County Championship in England , what that will mean is our players get used to overseas conditions , and play against strong and genuine opposition . I would love a scenario were we will not only have Elton Chigumbura being the only player playing county but have players like Brendan Taylor , Hamilton Masakadza and Taibu also getting necessary experience .
Our A side should also play lots of games say against India , Sri Lanka ,New Zealand in foreign conditions .
Players are there but they do not know how to respond in certain situations
