So, any glimmer of hope of seeing him in Zim colours again fade away...Murray Goodwin has signed a new two-year contract with newly-promoted Sussex.
The 37-year-old scored 1,201 County Championship runs at an average of 52.21 to help them win Division Two last season, and more than 2,000 in all competitions.
"I am really pleased to be continuing my cricket here at Sussex and hopefully we can look forward to more success," Goodwin told the club website.
"It was our main objective to return to Division One of the Championship at the first attempt and we will be looking to challenge on all fronts again next season."
Skipper Michael Yardy added: "It is a huge boost for the club for Murray to be signing for two more years.
"He is an integral part of our side and his form this summer was excellent. Hopefully he can continue this as we look to push on next season."
Goodwin played 19 Tests and 71 one-day internationals for his native Zimbabwe, but qualifies for Sussex as a Kolpak player after his international career came to an end in 2000.
