Terrible news. I would have loved to have seen him in the side. But you know what, one man does not make a team...Mawoyo is a VERY VERY exciting prospect, and it could be a blessing in disguise.
I still think our world cup chances are strong, it's just weather or not we have the mental strength to get past this barrier, because lets face it, with Ervine in the side, the balance of the team looked much healthier.

Ya, the fact that you've got the audacity to come onto the forum, as a new member, and blurt out that 'every1 has the right to say what they like', is pathetic. Conant was just expressing what he fealt......that why it's called a c....r....i....c....k....e....t.... f....o....r....u....m....
As usual you speak alot of sense.

I wanted Sean back but I am now tired of this will he, won't he. So it is time to forget about Sean and look to Tino and other players who can plug the gap.

If he wants to stay at Hants good luck to him. He seems a nice bloke and I wish him well. However he does not have the right to mess Zimbabwe Cricket, Hampshire CCC and the fans of both around like this.

So what I am trying to say is Sean Ervine, pee or get off the pot. Now you have made your decision STICK TO IT.
Ya i so agree,
The future of Zimbabwean Cricket is so bright.
The future is in guys like Mawoyo, Jarvis, Chitara, M and N Waller, Moor, S Marrilliar, Mushangwe etc.
I've not even scratched the surface in terms of talented youth. Add the above guys to the current crop, who are still in their early 20's i.e Taylor, Williams, Chibahba and we can certainly boast a bright future.
Yes, Ervine would have been a handy addition to the squad, but now he's gone, lets make sure he's gone for good.
It's not healthy for a team to be welcoming a new player and then saying goodbye to him within a matter of weeks.

Arguably, he'd just singed a 3-year contract with ZC, who would have been well within their rights to expect him to honour it.

He also had plenty of time before signing to consider what it meant - this has been rumbling on since when, October / November? The way he's handled this has been awful, and I know a few Hants fans who are just as annoyed as we are, if not moreso...

Fair point.

Its possible Hants waved a load of dosh under his nose. His reasons for staying at Hants (he cited getting married soon and the excess international travel involved with playing for Zim) are surely things he would have been aware of a few months ago.

Maybe he had not signed the contract, as I am sure if he had that Z.C would be suing his arse. (They could do with the money.)

According to Campbell, the contract was signed just before Christmas. I seriously doubt that he would have been named in the final squad if it hadn't been. (And hey, he walked away on an existing contract with Hants to sign that one - take note, anyone planning on signing a contract with Sean in the future...)

If ZC are simply letting him walk away, then they're being remarkably forgiving. I don't know that I would be in their position. But contract law is tricky, and the with Sean moving back to the UK there could be arguments over who has jurisdiction. ZC may simply decide that it's not worth the effort and aggravation.

Is Hants going to take him back? I'm glad he's done this before the world cup - now all our players will be focusing on playing. We don't need people who aren't committed to the cause.

Looks like Hampshire are more important to him than being a Zimbabwean...

"After having had time to reflect on all of the circumstances, I have realised that this is not the right time to leave Hampshire," said Ervine. "I have a great relationship with this club and its supporters and I feel like part of a family. I feel Hampshire is my home;

a quote from http://www.espncricinfo.com/zimbabwe/co ... 98379.html ... he has definately provided other teams with the ammo to sledge and try and get under his skin next season. Not to much the banter that will be going on towards Craig and co at the world cup!!

Hope the guys can get over this distraction...

:W: when he came back fo the zim domestic he didnt impress me at all i expectd him to rack up th runs since he was playing an "inferior" league. I say good riddance, and must b chargd with spot fixing fo jumping ship at ths stage. I also thnk he was afraid 2 b exposed in the sub continent. When was the last time he played there? Am sure he is "comfortable" with the English conditions and knew he was goin to strugle.
Thank You Sean, and so long and leav international cricket to the real players like Tino. Hope Tino goes and proves his class at the highest level.

Its such a pity because we are bringing it home. Whatever happened to patriotism?
