ZIMBABWE UNDER-19 cricket team tour to the United Arab Emirates has been postponed. The new dates for the tour will be advised in due course by the International Cricket Council (ICC). The four nations 2012 World Cup preparation tournament, which was expected to roar into life in April, was deferred after reigning champions Australia and South Africa pulled out for various reasons.
Team manger Nick Nsingo confirmed the development. “It is very sad that the tour has been put on hold again. This time two of the participating teams -Australia and South Africa have withdrawn from the tournament. We are still yet to know the cause for their withdrawal but as it stands the tour is on hold until further notice.
“The ICC informed us about the new development yesterday (Wednesday) and they are the ones who are going to contact us as soon as there is confirmation from the other teams,” he said. Zimbabwe Cricket had announced the 14-member team for the tour. There were few changes from the squad that got whitewashed in South Africa earlier this year.
One notable change from the team is that of Southern Rocks batsman Roy Kaia who is now overage.
“Roy Kaia is now over qualified on age. This is a proper under 19 tournament and he was slightly over the required age,” Nsingo said.
Initial squad
Matthew Bentley, Ryan Burl, Kasuza Kasuza, Luke Masire, Liberty Nherera, Peacemore Zinwa, Shena Handirisi, Malcolm Blake, Hleronymo Kavundura, James Bruce, Atish Chouhan, Campbell Light, Tobias Muzingwa, Kyle Bowie
