Exactly. Another thing to consider is the 3rd powerplay. Zim simply didn't know how to use it, why to use it and most importantly when to use it. With the ball change at the 34th over, loss of wickets and the effect on the bowling side, there's lots to consider but unless a captain regularly faces those circumstances then thinking straight during a high pressure situation in an international match becomes near impossible.
Very good points. These are important tactical considerations in ODI cricket. As is deciding when to use part time bowlers, this is also negated by the 13-a-side format, as you can pick as many specialist bowlers as you need, without weakening the batting line up.

To be fair, I don't think anyone has properly figured out the 3rd power play yet...

Hopefully the whole 40-over movement will die. 50-over cricket is the way to go. I think the power plays have added enough intrigue to the game, and personally I find the accumulation period from overs 15 to 40 quite fascinating to watch as that is the period that normally decides matches.
