Our Approach to Domestic T20 Game

I've been catching a bit of IPL over the last few days and this led me to ponder our own T20 league. Bvute has said recently they want the domestic game to be financially self-sustaining and I'm thinking what better way that a proper T20 league? Our top priority is rightly Test matches (and the Logan Cup as the feeder) and ODI (since so much of our image currently rides on it) but a good T20 league (rather than a two week tournament) would focus some local attention and sponsorship on the game and hopefully result in a Champions League spot, no?

Yeah right...

Zim's tourno is little different from the tournaments in many countries already. It would be excellent if one of Zim's sides could enter the Champions league, in terms of finance and big match experience. I can;t see it ever happening though, what financial value would the Eagles bring to the tournament? None. And that's all they really care about...

T20 is generally a waste of time anyway. I guess if ZC makes somes money out of it it is probably worthwhile but I think we need to have a domestic structure that first and foremost prepares our players for test cricket and ODIs. Very few domestic cricket tournaments are financially self sustaining as cricket has always been about international rivalries.

I feel T20 cricket is important. It increases the skills and brings the extra-ordinary sight of players. But definitely not more important than tests and ODI's. It's T20 cricket which has added dimension to ODI cricket and made it dynamic. The innovations and variation learned from T20 cricket helps the players to win matches in the ODIs...
