To be honest I think if you add BT and Naqvi to these guys we will be competitive with the bat. I also think Matigimu and Evans will do ok. To be honest I think the guys(mainly the batters) proved we aren't completely shit so the pressure to pay big wages to some of the guys mentioned is not there right now. The next opportunity is probably in 2027 when the older guys retire.

There is also Gary Ballance. I mean if he can consult, he can play. I think he can be convinced to give it a go if he is in a better mental space. The fact that they even gave him that role shows that things can be worked out.

Ya Matigimu is an unknown and I feel strongly he'd step up.
Its the same scenario, he's potentially better because he's spent some years in a different system.

Ballance is interesting. If you have the option of having a coaching role for anywhere between 5 and 10k or a playing role for the same amount you've got some serious decisions to make. One is high pressure and as we know you can get binned after 3 shit outings, then what? Is there a more high risk occupation for not a lot of financial reward? When your competitive urge goes it goes. I'm not saying it has, I personally dont know him.

BT clearly wants to play. Both these guys have a lot to offer with bat and as coaches. Can they tell you more than Matsi and Digger? (Dion). Who can answer that? Coaches tell you pretty generic stuff, there won't be too much you've never heard before. At the end of the day you have to figure out what works for you. You need a guy to pick up something youre doing wrong and then its largely up to you how you process that.

BT will want to play then coach. Really stretch it out. He has a real deep rooted vested interest in Zim winning, as do all the guys who've played for Zim before and watched us decline.
They want to work with guys who have the ability and the will, not guys treading water. Ex white players in coaching roles have to dodge the political minefield. They are definitely prepared to tolerate less. There's a lot that can go wrong for them and they're also on a short rope and have to bite their tongues during selection processes. Matsi has been willing to do that, Mangongo less so
Franchise coaching roles are absolutely considered a retirement package. Thats one of the vital things that needs to be changed here. It probably plays the biggest role in our mediocre domestic standard. Couple that with selection shenanigans and its the major factor in us having a poor standard. What happened at Mountaineers this year is the perfect example of how not to do things.

Then you've got overweight guys on fancy packages that are nowhere near the national side. Thats sends a shocking message to a talented guy practicing 3 hours a day that has to fetch his lunch out of a dustbin. Rather pay those guys that amount to stay far away, would work much better.
