Why? We are not a nation who can afford to be picky or have a hugh pool of talent coming through. We need to pick our best players and if those players are playing overseas then so be it. Until such a time as when we can actually have some sort of stability in our structure and our set up, we can not afford to be overly picky without teams.

I'm pretty sure I back tracked with my 2nd paragraph if u read it .....

Well if we start picking foreign based players then what's the point of playing here in Zim. All the players will jump ship and go play else where hence no first class cricket in Zim which is a prerequisite by ICC. Its a very dangerous precedence indeed. Besides I bet you none of Chibhabha, Matsikenyeri, Ervine will not hang around beyond the world cup.

Whilst i agree that we need a thriving domestic scene, we are currently in a position where we cant be picky. If players are not getting paid, you cant expect them to stay behind just because they want to play international cricket. They have lives to live and families to support. Cricket is their livelihood.

What we need to do is say that, ok these players have come back. We want them to play domestically. How then do we make that a reality? How do we stop players from going overseas and leaving the game and leaving the international team? We need to build a solid structure. But we must never deny players the opportunity to play abroad outside of our domestic scene.

i dont think its a serious problem considering that the overrated county scene begins in april or may and runs till about september whn our domestic season starts. We could benefit from this in particular franchise players who have six month contracts

We should let the players play wherever they like and just have a short intense domestic season. Let club cricket fill the other gaps.

Grant Flower back Zimbabwe to do well at World Cup
“I would like to think we can go through to the later stages,”
“I think we definitely have the players to do that, but it’s obviously about how the guys will do under pressure.
“The World Cup if the biggest stage and time will tell.”
Flower also had some tips for the Zimbabwe team and how they can be able to punch above their weight Down Under.
“Get there early, climatise, play some good and hard cricket and probably not think too much and just enjoy the pressure.”
He said he enjoyed his time in the Zimbabwe team.
“I loved my time in Zimbabwe; there were some great memories, good people,” said Flower.
“We did not have a group of seasoned professionals at the time, some people had full-time employment, there were some difficulties within the country, economic problems, etc, a small population, but our biggest thing was camaraderie and team spirit.
“That brought us together and that’s why we ended up with some good results between the hardships.”
Flower also spoke about his World Cup memories.
“It’s a huge privilege to be going to the World Cup to represent your country,” Flower said.
“My best moments were beating South Africa at Chelmsford (1999 ICC Cricket World Cup), in England, at the World Cup and getting through to the Super Six and from what I can remember is that we got our calculations against Pakistan wrong at the Oval.
“We did well in South Africa and we had to beat Sri Lanka, I think, in the quarter-finals, and we didn’t; I had great memories and I look forward to the next one.”

Zimdoggy here,
I know you've all been waiting on my thoughts on this- so here goes.

Firstly I have 1 dollar in my sportsbet account for zimbabwe to win the cup at 500-1, so I really need these guys to push themselves to do well.

I made this bet a year ago in the belief Cremer was still around. This is no longer the case, so its a bit harder than i thought.

Onto the thoughts;

Vusi Sibanda-
The guy is in horrible, horrible form and i am no fan, BUT I really think he should have made this onto the plane before Matsi.
Matsi is a failure as well and the thing about Vusi is i believe he is suited to aussie conditions.
The extra bounce plays into his favour, and he hits it hard. He really should have been there.
If he failed though, then his papers should well and truly be marked as never playing for zimbabwe again.

Chamu Chibhabha-
I dont mind this.
He has some talent on his day but is wildly inconsistent, but he's a guy that CAN fire. And you cant argue against making a one day 155- albeit against canada C. But look who hes up against.

Prosper Utseya-
This one i really dont agree with.
He is essentially a player who has never played an international before, in the sense that hes never bowled his new style in an international game. He shouldnt have been there ahead of Vitori, waller or even Shingi. His style could be covered by Hammy. Also, IF Prosper was only picked on experience, then Vusi shoulda been there too.

Craig Ervine-
Lucky boy, hasnt done anything anywhere in the world in 3 years. But he has some talent and his fortune is largely due to the failure of everyone else and the chance he didnt get to fail in Bangladesh. Waller really only needed one big score to overtake him here.

Tawenda Mupariwa-
Due to no one else being good enough, he has done enough in my book. Although having a 110km/hr bowler in the squad is even more reason prosper didnt deserve a ticket as a player.

Apart from that i cannot complain- although due to the prosper situation i would have dearly loved to see Ray price be brought back for one more tournament.
Hes a finger spinner- And Brad Hogg is raping batsman in the Big bash at 44 years of age- and is a smokey for Australia. Literally as unplayable as ive seen.

You can all breath a sigh of relief and stop clicking refresh now- my thoughts are there and complete.

Actually, if you look at his dismissals in the BD series, he was dismissed by Shakib in the 1st, 4th and 5th ODIs and by Mortaza in the 2nd and 3rd one.
Most of the time, it was the left-arm spin of Shakib that troubled him. He generally looked very comfortable against the seamers. And if you've seen the matches, you would have noticed the kind of turn and bounce Shakib was getting at times and also his deadly "arm-ball", which was the main reason for the downfall of most of our batsmen.
Spinners definitely won't get the kind of assistance they get in BD.

But now that he's been dropped, I'm hoping Matsi starts performing well at the international level. I've seen him bat well against sides like SA, so he definitely has the ability but I'm not sure about his consistency.

Also, I think had Sibanda been picked in the first one-dayer against Canada, he would have got a big score which was probably the basis for Chamu and Matsi's selection. Well, he's getting one today....

7 or so years ago vusi came and played first grades hired cricket for strathfield. A suburb in Sydney.
For those not In the know, shires is a gateway between park cricket and grade cricket. The guys too good for park (boozer) but bot good enough for grade (premier league below Sheffield shield state), alternatively it's the equivalent of third grade, so it's a staggered step. Has some ex internationals playing, people who bowl state speed but had disciplinary or length problems etc.

Anyway vusi was top scorer and averaged 85. That phenomenal for a standard very very close to the Logan cup. My mate played with him and my mates a gun player, but not as good as vusi.

Vusi should have played in this World Cup on that alone. Given the lack of depth.
