Yeah, I read it a couple of years ago. I rate it up there with the Peter Godwin books.foreignfield wrote:Forgot to ask, has anyone else here read it?

There are plans to shoot a documentary about "The Last Resort", a promo video can be seen here: http://thelastresortdocumentary.com/#brmtaylor.com admin wrote:Yeah, I read it a couple of years ago. Another character in the book who has already featured in this thread (http://zimcricketforums.com/viewtopic.p ... &start=670) is Brian James, the MDC Mayor of Mutare, brother of Wayne, and according to Doug Rogers "a good medium-pace bowler" in his youth.
There was a younger Brian James who played a couple of matches for Manicaland around the turn of the millenium. Any relation to Wayne or Brian sen.?

Re: Zimbabwe Cricket Photo Quiz
There is more than one Rogers family in Zim. In 2008 Douglas got a worried e-mail from a friend who had seen an article about a Mr and Mrs Rogers savagely attacked on their farm, it turned out they were not his parents and he didn't know them at all. Here's the article: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldne ... -land.htmlCrimsonAvenger wrote:May be I'm seeing things. In fact they were Barney's parents. The attack was discussed in this forum before my time: http://zimcricketforums.com/viewtopic.p ... ents#p2600

I remember that. And those were gory pictures too. Felt very bad. That was in fact another reason why I felt there must be some connection. Anyway, any news about the well being of Barney Rogers' family?foreignfield wrote: In fact they were Barney's parents. 326. Nice and easy one here. This former FC player from Zim (on the left) was in action this weekend in a match against one of the young hopefuls whose progress in European club cricket we are following over on the other thread (just need to check out the scorecards there). Who is he (and who is the guy on the right?)

Re: Zimbabwe Cricket Photo Quiz
That sort of stuff really amazes me (the family connections). What gets me is that virtually everyone that plays cricket at any level in Zimbabwe is somehow related. Brothers Flower, Strang, Campbell, Rennie, Masakadza, cousins Whittall, Waller. Utseya is Matsikenyeri's cousin, even Calum Price and the Higgins brothers are cousins! Not to mention the many, many father/son cases.foreignfield wrote:There is more than one Rogers family in Zim. So it never ceases to shock me that in a community as small as the whites in Zimbabwe - especially in the subset of cricket players - that anyone sharing a last name could not be, at most, a few generations disconnected. I guess it is a simplistic view of it though, names like Rogers are not that uncommon and who knows how many Rogers families migrated away from England over the last century.
But seriously, how can Ray Price and Calum Price be supposedly unrelated. Kirsty Coventry is not related to Charles Coventry. And as you mentioned, Douglas Rogers is not related to Barney Rogers. Like I said, it amazes me how that can happen in a community so small.

Yes, that's the younger Soma (another pair of brothers) with Alex Gidman whose brother Will was also at that function and handed Andre Soma some club award or other (family ties run deep in cricket everywhere, it seems).samedwards wrote:Andre Soma and Alex Gidman?
Last weekend Andre Soma took the wicket of fellow Zimbo Calum Price and hit 69 for Hatherley & Reddings CC, a club he has been with for a number of years.
