I'd say the best spinner inside Zimbabwe at the monet is Raymond Price, but he's being pressed hard by Maruma dn Graeme Cremer.
As for the best fast bowler, i'd say it's between Elton Chigumbura and Keegan Meth. I know Meth hasn't played much international cricket, but he's been one of the most consistant fast bowlers this year.

is meth really that good? i know his domestic figures look good but from what i've seen in the T20 he doesn't look too quick and is someone people like gayle and pollard could take apart. cricinfo says he can swing it both ways and obviously i have no problem with his batting and fielding but i'm not too convinced he is ready to come back into the team. that said i'm happy to be proved wrong and if people like mpofu don't shine consistently then meth is in major contention to make the XI, but i would have had mupariwa as he did well in the caribbean last time and rainsford in the squad too as they have proven themselves at international level and as this is a series zim are targetting for success we need are strongest team, people like meth and craig ervine are just outside that right now. but this is only my opinion and hopefully am proved wrong in the upcoming series

I agree, im not sure where your confidence in craig ervine and keegen meth has come from sloandog, i like Meth a lot but he is not ready yet and ive seen him bowl this series and i think he may have a bit of a suspect action as the is definitely a bending og the arm which then straightens.r@ndom wrote:is meth really that good? i know his domestic figures look good but from what i've seen in the T20 he doesn't look too quick and is someone people like gayle and pollard could take apart. cricinfo says he can swing it both ways and obviously i have no problem with his batting and fielding but i'm not too convinced he is ready to come back into the team. that said i'm happy to be proved wrong and if people like mpofu don't shine consistently then meth is in major contention to make the XI, but i would have had mupariwa as he did well in the caribbean last time and rainsford in the squad too as they have proven themselves at international level and as this is a series zim are targetting for success we need are strongest team, people like meth and craig ervine are just outside that right now. but this is only my opinion and hopefully am proved wrong in the upcoming series
On Carig Ervine, what has he done? yes he is a good talent but he is not scoring big runs in the domestic comps, only one 100, you critizise Matsiknyeri and ask why he is in the side, but dont you remember his 89 against south africa and the fact he is in the top 5 leading run scores in this years domestic comps for both one day and 4 day cricket,
I think the selectors have got it spot on.

Re: Here is Zimbabwe's 15 man squad for tour of W.Indies
This squad is what I would have picked (a squad of 16 that generally people pick especially for a tour of WI)
7 batsmen (Including wicket keepers)
1. Hamilton Masakadza (Zim batsman of 2009)
2. Vusi Sibanda (Bradman of Highfields has done more than enough to win back his place)
3. Tatenda Taibu (Still the best talent in the country)
4. Brendan Taylor (The form man)
5. Sean Williams (Class. How many times has he saved the face already?)
6. Stuart Matsikenyeri (In all fairness, he is in very good form of late, and warrants a place based on that)
7. Forster Mutizwa (Must be given more opportunities, a talent for the future for sure)
1 Pacer Allrounder
8. Elton Chigumbura (No justifications needed here)
1 Spinning allrounder
9. Greg Lamb / Timycen Maruma (Lamb gets in here, just because we would need a better batsman in case the collapse comes back to haunt, tough luck for Maruma)
4 pacers
10. Kyle Jarvis (Ever improving exciting prospect)
11. Chris Mpofu (Heath Streak surely has high hopes of him, and its just a few minor adjustments in disciplined line and length and we have a real good long serving pacer here)
12. Ed Rainsford / Shingi Masakadza (Would go for Rainsford if I am sure that he is fully fit as he has experience, else Shingi Experiment is not too bad, as he has been picking wickets very regularly for the last two seasons)
13. Keegan Meth (The man swings, and half of those bludgoen happy WI batsmen struggle when there is movement in the air. He has quite good accuracy too, which was not entirely evident in short spells of T20. Excellent fielding option in the outfield)
3 spinners
14. Prosper Utseya (Skipper, has previous knowledge of WI conditions)
15. Ray Price (Worl No. 2, need we say more)
16. Graeme Cremer / Timycen Maruma (Maruma stakes claim here too, and very strongly, but Cremer has done nothing wrong to be dropped. So tough luck again for Maruma here
)
Stand By (Apart from Maruma, Rainsford / Shingi):
Charles Coventry, Dion Ebrahim, Gregory Strydom, Tawanda Mupariwa
7 batsmen (Including wicket keepers)
1. Hamilton Masakadza (Zim batsman of 2009)
2. Vusi Sibanda (Bradman of Highfields has done more than enough to win back his place)

Re: Here is Zimbabwe's 15 man squad for tour of W.Indies
Just for the record, Keegan Meth doesn't have a suspect action as he was bowling in our leagues 2 seasons ago. He's been checked by the I.C.C and he's got the thumbs up. Secondly, Craig Ervine is one of my favourite batsmen, perhaps favouritism is getting in the way a little so you guys are probably right on that note. But with Keegan Meth you get the all-round package. He bowls well, he bats well and he fields well. I just think Heath Streak and Alistair Campbell could really get the best out of this boy. Yes, maybe he is exposed to the big hitters, but he's a clever bowler. He's got a superb slower ball and he's quicker than you think.zimfan1 wrote:I agree, im not sure where your confidence in craig ervine and keegen meth has come from sloandog, i like Meth a lot but he is not ready yet and ive seen him bowl this series and i think he may have a bit of a suspect action as the is definitely a bending og the arm which then straightens.

In regards to Stuart Matsikinyeri, what's he done to warrant his place in the national side ?? Domestically he's doing well, but on the national stage he struggles. It just frustrates me so much when a player of Stuarts class missfires' on a regular basis for Zimbabwe. As a spectator it's very frustrating, and i'd just like to see a fresh face instead. That's just my view, i dont want to cause a big debate over it beacause that's not what i intended to cause.
Re: Here is Zimbabwe's 15 man squad for tour of W.Indies
Perhaps the selectors didn't want to pick two internationally unproven all-rounders in Keegan Meth and Greg Lamb in the same squad

How can we fault your logic, Crimson. Spot on all round. I just think the selectors are reluctant to take some hard decisions, with regards to those three spinners and Prosper Utseya. No matter: the new coach will probably sweep the room when he comes in after the West Indies tour or the World Cup. That way everybody can pretend its the decision of a new order and save face.CrimsonAvenger wrote:This squad is what I would have picked (a squad of 16 that generally people pick especially for a tour of WI)
