Makoni will be hoping for one innings of more than 10 and he could be straight into the national side
As I said, it’s a family business

I've never seen a scorecard with him scoring over 50

Time for some conspiracy theory...

Is that how Campbell managed to get his team into the First Class competition? By ensuring a regular place in the XI for Makoni's son? :) (thus also ensuring a place for his own son in the lineup :))

Listening to the Dean at Stumps interviews with AC & GB they were fairly transparent, they said that the ACHPP is pretty much the official ZC Cricket academy, so yes ZC funds a large portion of the ACHPP (along with the expensive tuition). There's every chance AC & Makoni have made some deal, although I wouldn't be 100% sure it's on that large a scale, I think ZC are just happy to have the academy side in the domestic structure because so many of the ZRS players improved from taking part.

I'd say Makoni jnr is just in there because of who his father is, Givemore holds enough weight physically & figuratively without having to promise AC anything or making him any deals, he probably just said "I want him in"

I think they realized Rising Stars was a good idea, but as usual they have to control everything completely or they start to feel insecure. They’re afraid of Taibu gaining any sort of foothold because he’s so outspoken and they view him as a bit of a loose cannon. We’ve been the only member nation without some form of academy for many years. AC’s original plan was probably to have an independent academy with overseas players paying full fee. I say probably because he’s smart enough to have timed it well enough that if that didn’t happen (and it obviously didn’t) then he could make a proposal to ZC that they would go for. A fall back option so to speak.
He also cribbed Taibu’s plan, that should not be lost on anyone. I’m pretty sure he knew Taibu would run afoul of these muppets.

In all the years ZC have been mismanaging the cricket they’ve never had a proper pathway in their franchises for up and coming players, and they still don’t and they never will, quite simply because they don’t have the expertise or inclination to make it happen. They’re happy with playing the same players over and over in a charade of cricket that will never progress the game.

The AC academy ticks the boxes and can be cut loose at any point if they become unmanageable. Gary Brent is an extremely hard working and good coach, something they’ve never had in the franchises and with Jarvis and Taylor in that side they may well win some games. The problem is I’ve heard they’re a bit light on good players.
I’m curious what will happen when this intake is finished, which presumably will be at end of season. 14 or so players will now be looking for a gig and realistically only two or perhaps three will get one. Are they going to have brand new guys for next season or will they retain a few.
Those “lucky” two or three will become part of 30 man squads all vying for spots with only 8 games on the table  They had better not win too many or it will be disbanded.

That charade of 30 man squads was because the players voted against the interim board and it’s a thank you, we really have your interests at heart  It won’t happen next season, these short sighted and basically stupid players have been duped again! It will continue to happen, you can’t fix stupid.

How many of those Rising Stars boys who won the 50 over will hold down a spot in a starting 11 this season? That will tell you how serious ZC is.
In what world does an Academy side win a comp against established “professionals” A combined English Academy XI would never win one single game against a mediocre County side.
Just in case you were wondering about the standard of cricket here.
I was just looking through the AC academy social media, they’ve played the U19’s on at least 6 occasions and beaten them every time. I know a few of those u19’s and there are some really good players there, they should never be losing to that AC side! It comes down to Brent’s ability as a coach. At the junior levels it make such a difference. Brent had an unbelievable record at Mountaineers and got sacked. Makoni himself took over and re-indoctrinated their players. That’s no coincidence!
His hatred of the whites is all consuming and he’s been the power base in ZC all these years, forget the Chairmen!
If Brent sticks his head above the parapet this season with a really mediocre side not even Campbell will save it from being lopped off. Mediocrity and subservience is the order of the day.

What I like about this Academy team is they took my idea that I wanted to see in the rising stars and places Taylor and Jarvis in the team for the kids to learn from.

On that note. Does that prove that these guys closely read the forum?

The idea I floated two seasons ago was to use these very two players in the stars as they are well paid and centrally contracted.

Are any of the players actually loyal to there team or just change clubs willy nilly?

Well no one really lives in Mutare or KweKwe voluntarily, certainly not any of the cricketers, and a couple of the Harare boys have to base themselves in Bulawayo to play for Tuskers so the short answer is no. 80% of the guys live in Harare and travel to play in Mutare and KweKwe.
It’s all a charade from beginning to end.
