ZIMBABWE CRICKET ELECTIONS: ICC warns against government interference

The International Cricket Council says it will not hesitate to exercise its discretion and suspend Zimbabwe from the body should the Sport and Recreation Commission interfere with it local affiliate.
Zimbabwe players celebrate victory in action during a World Cup Cricket Qualifier match played with Nigeria at Old Hararians Sports Club in Harare, May 11 2019.
This on the back of Zimbabwe Cricket holding elections on Friday in Victoria Falls to elect its leadership in spite of an SRC directive to stop it from going ahead.
Speaking to Sunday News, ZC chairperson Tavengwa Mukhuhlani was quoted as saying:
Our first reaction [to the [suspension of the election] was to get in touch with the ICC and explain that we have an AGM going on tomorrow, Government has instructed us to suspend it, how do you guide us. The instruction from ICC was very clear that suspension of an election or an AGM amounts to interference by Government so we should proceed with the AGM. The ICC has written to that effect,
The new ICC Chief Executive Manu Sawney went on ‘to make it clear that in the event that there was any meddling, the ICC Board retains the discretion to suspend ZC and/or to impose such other sanction as it sees fit, including the suspension of any right to receive financial support from the ICC, to have Zimbabwean representative teams participate in any ICC Events and to suspend the right to attend and/or vote at ICC Board and Full Council meetings’.
The far-reaching implications would see the Zimbabwe men and women’s teams thrown out the upcoming Global Qualifiers for the 2020 T20 World Cup finals. This would also throw the domestic season into trouble given its reliance on ICC money.
After a period of calm in which Zimbabwe Cricket seemed to have gotten its house in order with the assistance of the ICC it seems as if the discussions will again move away from the field to boardroom politics

Folks, there is no end to this saga. If government attempts action, they run to ICC, and if ICC attempts action (unlikely), they run to the government - till Zim Cricket is extinct.kudet wrote: ↑Mon Jun 17, 2019 3:12 amOur first reaction [to the [suspension of the election] was to get in touch with the ICC and explain that we have an AGM going on tomorrow, Government has instructed us to suspend it, how do you guide us. Hoping Ed Rainsford's inclusion will help somewhat, you'd think the more ex-players involved the better

The SRC must surely have known that ZC would run to the ICC? If SRC push for an investigation or re-audit ZC will again turn to the ICC and claim that they’ve been given a clean bill of health by internationally recognized auditors.
I don’t know how powerful SRC actually is here. They’re up against a high profile organization with a big war chest in ZC and ICC. They’d need a smoking gun to kick this off.
Ed Rainsford will be the customary window dressing.

It is said that the SRC has flexed its Powers on ZC with the ZC Board and acting MD suspended. Powerful points in the Statement attached.

Ellman Brown and Co I’m assuming are aware of their appointments?
He wouldn’t agree unless ICC gave him the thumbs up and this was agreed beforehand.
This is going to create a shit storm.
That V8 turbo charged paper shredder is going to be red lining tonight. I see an office fire in the near future

What are the chances of the ICC getting this one right
