Another naive reporting of the same news here: http://news.radiovop.com/index.php/spor ... /3152.html
They have the same 28 names again, but say that the provisional squad is 38 men strong!

From reliable sources in ZC there will be an offical statement from ZC at 3.30pm UK time
Also the appointment of a new coach is very close.

Re: Sean Ervine returns to Zimbabwe along Goodwin and Mariller
From what i can make of things it seems very unlikely that the Goodwin/Ervine thing has any substance to it.
Those that are in the know about kolpak regulations say that if either of them were to play cricket FOR Zimbabwe, not to be confused with cricket IN Zimbabwe, then they would immediately lose the right to kolpak status.
For Sean Ervine this would mean risking his career with Hampshire as he would only be eligible to play in England on an overseas registration, at his age i find this highly unlikely to say the least as he still has many seasons ahead of him.
For Murray Goodwin the outcome would be the same of course. He has just had a benefit season and is a highly loyal player, i simply cannot see him walking out on Sussex and English cricket when he still has 2 or 3 more seasons in him, yes he had a poor season by his standards last season, but there are still a lot more runs in him and i don't see them being scored for Zim.
We shall all have to wait and see what is announced, today or tomorrow or whenever, but i feel strongly that anyone expecting to see those two names in the squad is going to be sadly disappointed.

announcement make all things clear i think
God Always Favors Brave Always
Re: Sean Ervine returns to Zimbabwe along Goodwin and Mariller
I may be wrong but I believe Sean Ervine has an Irish passport and therefore doesn't count as a Kolpak player. However given dual citizenship is illegal under Zimbabwean law (though most people who can have a Brit passport stashed away somewhere) I wonder what kind of deal has been made. As for Murray Goodwin, the reason he left Zimbabwe was because of his wife's unhappiness, and not because of politics. So unless his wife's feelings have changed drastically in the time things in Zimbabwe have deteriorated then this is a strange one. That being said he was always seen as a good influence in the dressing room unlike Neil Johnson who acted like and expected to be treated like an overseas pro. Still in Zimbabwe anything is possible so I await the announcement with baited breath.
Re: Sean Ervine returns to Zimbabwe along Goodwin and Mariller
At the risk of appearing over optimistic I believe the sceptics are underestimating the lure of international cricket and it's financial rewards. Neither Goodwin or Ervine will currently be high earners in county cricket.
In the case of Goodwin, 10 years is a long time. His days at Sussex are numbered and this is his last chance to play international cricket. His personal circumstances may have changed - Kids grown up etc? He also didn't get a IPL contract this year.
Still I would be surprised if either return without a clear commitment from the ZCU that a return to test cricket is imminent.

Re: Sean Ervine returns to Zimbabwe along Goodwin and Mariller
Another thing that rises hopes is the fact that Murray Goodwin entered his name into IPL auction fray as a "Zimbabwean". If he was bought, he would have had to produce NOC from ZC, for which he should have already contacted them to come to some agreement. This might mean that they were "discussing cricket".
Anyway, the time revealed by zimfan1 is just about a couple of hours away...
