Yeah, agree with this one, although we would have dropped Trenchard too if we had the other batsman there while Power Maruma seems to be absent from the scene completely. The Phantom Mountaineers are fully behind the development of exciting talents Munyede, Muzarawetu and Mamhiyo. Burlmania, here we come :D

And just read all the stuff being proposed brmtaylor.com admin, it was getting more and more complicated as it went on :)

Maybe that's a sign I was getting carried away, and we should just leave it as-is then :P

I think a 16 man squad may be ok, but a rookie draft may damage the enjoyment of the end of season situation. If we did it, we may need to toss a virtual coin or flip things around as with a much smaller pool Goats will just be too strong with first pick. :P

My squad suffering an injury and a couple of noshows, but these things happen.

Current draft XI would be

Mawoyo - coming back to some runs
Mujuru - getting some
Williams - great touch
Chakabva - Coming on well
Waller - Struggling
Kaia - needs to recapture last season's form
Madziva - Making contributions, but could step up
Garwe - plenty of overs so far and ok at 8
Chisoro - did ok in his List A showing
Vitori - form fine, action?
Muzarabani - going ok

Close to full strength apart from Tiripano for Chisoro. Mufudza and Mlambo missing, Muzhange may be a T20 special.

I'm going to go ahead and declare Matabeleland the winners of this season.

Here's the stats below - from http://stats.espncricinfo.com/zimbabwe- ... ype=season

If you notice that I've added something up incorrectly let me know.

The formula I used was... each run scored is worth 1 point, each wicket taken is worth 20 points. Each player gets a point value based on this criteria, which is then divided by the number of matches they played. This is then aggregated for each team. The team with the most points wins.

In the end it was:

Matabeleland: 926.5
Mid West Rhinos: 885.4
Mountaineers: 716.0
Mashonaland: 533.4

For anyone interested, here are the individual player rankings in order from top to bottom. A few teams definitely hit hard by the fact the international players played so little domestic cricket. If, as is often the case, a Taylor or a Raza had played one game and scored 200 it would have changed the entire complexion of the competition. The paucity of batting talent in the Logan Cup (very few players averaged over 40) has made this quite a bowler dominated list too.

It's also interesting (predictable maybe?) to note that a first round draft pick in Williams ended up topping the charts, while other high draft picks like Mupariwa, Sibanda, S Masakadza and Mushangwe also performed well. But there was definitely some good value to be found later on in the draft too. Guys like Nyumbu were 13th round picks and at the time I believe he would have been a $500 pickup because he was uncapped at international level. What a bargain! Good value in Jongwe and Mumba too.

Well done Tuskers.

Thanks BRMT, I had been meaning to do some stats for this thread - so my wife will be grateful to you!

Some big picks barely got on the park, but that is the nature of managing a FC team.

So where do we go from here - cut some players? Rookie draft? Trade period?

We'll get into it after the Pakistan series, but in a nutshell it will be similar to last year. The reaction from the last few pages shows that over-complicating things is not the way to go.

We will have a trade period though, followed by a draft like last year. I'm still thinking about how to tweak it - there will need to be some player cuts in order to have a proper draft pool, but some players could be nominated by each manager to be retained. It'll all come together over the next few weeks and I'll make sure it's kept simple.

Thanks, skipper, for the stats ... if you are bored, could you do the Pro50 as well :D

Availability is indeed an issue if we merge the world of phantom cricket with the real FC world. I must admit I never thought about that aspect during the draft itself.

Can't say i am surprised with this. Would definitely love to do it again. It would be easier if we knew which players we certain. Im sure some of the guys we signed up didnt play at all, or probably were never in the country.
