Insider information: Mid West Rhinos are in advanced talks with AB de Villiers to come out and play in Zimbabwe on a 3 year deal that will see him captain the squad, coach the players, make the lunches and serve the teas.

Full disclosure: Our AB is not the AB that you might be thinking of... It's not the Abraham Benjamin de Villiers, it's Arnold Bartholomew... and he bats down the order and bowls pies...

foreignfield wrote:The Indo-German consortium as the current owners of Mountaineers are open to start negotiations about a take-over of the franchise. Viable offers are welcome!
If you haven't noticed folks, this is the important announcement. Here's what ManicaNews has to say on this:
It has been learnt that politics and favoritism in selecting the team support staff left the Indo-German co-owners of the Mountaineers franchise foreignfield and CrimsonAvenger helpless and frustrated as the season progressed. The Phantom Franchise owners had frequent run ins with the CEO Takemore Moroni throughout the season, and the biggest bone of contention seems to be dropping of the Brents from the coaching and management staff.

It is learnt that the consortium wanted the Brents to stay given the stellar performances of the Mountain Goats franchise in their guidance, but Takemore's men had no intentions to budge. Sources close to the phantom franchise indicate that there were more than one occation where the fanatic Indian co-owner had heated arguments with Moroni's men and had to be calmed down by his level headed German counterpart and the skipper of the franchise.

However, the consortium has issued a press release saying that they would be leaving on good terms and are leaving only due to the lack of time they can dedicate to the initiative. They are happy to notice a growing interest in the region and the progress of their phantom drafters. They singled out their inspired selection Taffy Muzarawetu as a future star and thanked skipper Hamiton Masakadza for all the support. The owners have announced that they are open to sell the franchise to the individual / team that can take the team forward with the same zeal and enthusiasm. They are looking for younger blood to come forward. Phantom draft charman brmtaylor.com admin was unavailable for comment.

I hypothesise that it was only going to be a matter of time until that farm in Chimanimani came back to bite the Indo-German consortium

Sad to see CrimsonAvenger and foreignfield leave for greener pastures (hopefully the rumours of a plush phantom county gig are not true), but it does open up a spot for the Mountaineers.

As the only other recent contributor, could we end up with the unusual situation of MidWest Rhinos managing the Mountaineers franchise?

The Eagles causing some controversy.
Spea Aks Alot from DailyNews.co.zw writes:

Mashonaland call for reform

Mashonaland Eagles have called for reform in the ZCF Cricket League following a disappointing season in which the team finished bottom of the table.

The Eagles had high hopes after a solid start to their recruitment saw the side sign former Zimbabwe captain Brendan Taylor, and current Zimbabwe opener Sikandar Raza. Taylor and Raza were unavailable for the Zimbabwe Domestic Season as they were both occupied with the national side at during the World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.

Raza returned to the Eagles for a brief period after the tournament but Taylor moved to the UK after signing a 3 year Kolpak deal with Nottinghampshire.

With the side heavily reliant on their youth product, The Eagles failed to impress in the league and were left wondering.

"We had high hopes, but I think we learnt a lot this season. There is some promising signs and room for improvement, but I think there needs to be a wider change," said Eagels chairman Zimbos_05.

"Certain players were part of the draft and they did not appear for any of their sides due to various issues, and it was an issue that affected all the teams. We feel the ZCF League board should perhaps have a secure draft list on guaranteed players up for signing.

"We are committed to the league, and would like to see it grow, perhaps even bringing in International stars and hosting a T20 competition.

"The season has ended, and we now find ourselves in a position of trading, and soon another draft. Unfortunately we are not aware if certain players are guaranteed to be part of their respective sides or what exactly the situation and process is."

The Eagles are determined to change their fortunes around next season and would like to see the ZCF League grow.

There is talk of a potential takeover at The Mountaineers franchise, but the ZCF League have refused to make a full statement on the matter until more details have been confirmed.

It is indeed a very interesting period for the league that has the potential to go big, or go bust.

I'll get this up and running before the domestic season starts.

Is the plan still:

Jemisi - Mountaineers
zimbos_05 - Mashonaland Eagles
MWR - Mid West Rhinos
zimfan1 - Matabeleland Tuskers

?
