Seriously, I think our batting is looking good!

I'm now hell bent on Burl to open the batting. I think Musakanda and him are on equal footing but Burl seems a more conservative player. Tarisai appears to have more shots and looks to be more expansive.

Maybe a side of;

1. Hamilton Mazakadza
2. Ryan Burl
3. Crag Ervine
4. Brendan Taylor
5. Sean Williams
6. Sikander Raza
7. PJ Moor (By the skin of his teeth)
8. Graeme Cremer
9. Donald Tiripano
10. Kyle Jarvis
11.Tendai Chatara

12th man: Tarisa Musakanda/Regis Chakabva
I could get on board with that line up too. I don't know if Burl is ready yet though... Raza opening and an extra middle order spot for Chakabva/Musakanda/Waller is appealing to me.

When would a talent like Burl be ready though? Like, when can we say 'yea, ok, lets get him in there'. He averages in the mid 40's in FC Cricket, he's now 23 and has some good FC experience under his belt and is evidently one of the best youngsters in the country. Markrahm is a prime example currently playing for SA. Obviously the standard is much higher, but it's a nice mini prototype comparison.
I just think get him in there and blood him. He's obviously very talented and highly thought of by the selectors and the coaching staff. We are desperate for an opener as it is, so why not. I think he's a better investment than Chamu now.

I quite like the look of this. Mpofu's form seems to be pretty good, so I think he may get the nod ahead of Tiripano.
A tail of Chatara, Jarvis and Mpofu scares me. What scares me even more is that I'm even tempted to put Larry ahead of Jarvis

Jarvis isn't rubbish - unless his batting's gone backwards in England. They didn't call him Kyle "Tino "Rahul "The Wall" Dravid" Mawoyo" Jarvis for nothing!
Definitely better than Tendai "I'll face this standing next to the square leg umpire" Chatara!

I'm not against Burl getting a Test gig, I just haven't been blown away by his ODI performances to date.

Does anyone know who his FC century came against?

He plays his forward defensive with a beautiful straight bat, I'll give you that ... it's just a shame the ball usually travels on a different path

But of course, in all seriousness, Kyle is a better bat than Larry, although I always enjoy Larry's antics with the bat.

Can never forget that 10th wicket partnership which Larry was involved with I think Vitori against Pakistan in that famous test win. 20/30 runs that won us the match .

Things are playing perfectly in this match in terms of the race for selection. Mutumbami probably won't declare until he gets to 50. By doing so he is giving a target for which Chibhabha and Regis can dig in and also score big unlike the rising stars game where Waller PJ and Mire did not do anything spectacular. As it stands Richmond has the edge

I'm pretty sure Mawoyo Burl Musakanda Waller PJ Regis Richie and Chamu will play the A game and it will be a straight shoot out for a spot. Competition hasn't been this tight in a while.

TheIr primary job is getting wickets. If the top order is not making runs then that's where the problem lies.

At this point tuskers have more than enough runs on the board. But if I were Mutumbami I would be selfish and get some runs in the bag myself.
CHRISTOPHER MPOFU: 'The problem was fear of failure. I used to think that when I played, if I didn't do well in one game, I would lose my place for the next one but now I've let go of that'

Hand on heart, yea, I do mate. I think he has more natural ability than the above for sure, with the addition of him having more FC consistency. He faced a very strong bowling attack in this game and the fact he came out with two gritty half centuries tells me he has the minerals and the fight necessary to succeed.

I might be proved terribly wrong, but if I had a gun to my head and was asked who would should open out of the above selection of players, Burl would be my number 1 all day long.

Think he's a very good player. I still think Vusi Sibanda has the best technique in the country, and some of the best natural ability, but obviously was never up to consistently making the step up for higher honours. Moor has so far flopped in white ball cricket too. I mentioned in the other thread his power and ability to clear the ropes so easily is one of his greatest strengths and his technique is pretty good as well. I just don't want him to fall into the 'unfulfilled talent' bracket. Hell, Malcolm Waller has only just started to show why he's so highly thought of. It's only taken him 9 years..

Jeepers...Eagles under the pump right now...the fact that the Tuskers haven't declared is a bit mysterious...
Peterhouse U14C 4th change bowler and no. 10 batsman (but only because Aaron didn't have a bat).
