I've said that a number of times before, but for some, acknowledging that a parallel exits with Vusi is to accept that Duffin, Ewing , Matsi etc can do just as well if they get a chance. You need to understand one thing here Jemisi, eugene is hellbent on disproving my belief that unless the other mature players are given a run as well in order to prove themselves then we shouldn't discard them because Vusi was in the same boat, so he would rather refuse that, no matter how true it is. It's simple to just say "ok we'll see", but they'll have none of that!Jemisi wrote:I agree with you on Matsi, but Vusi was in the Matsi class or worse for a good long time. It was years.Jemisi wrote:Vusi was never mediocre, he has steadily improved over time. Matsi has never had any trend to suggest his game is improving. His inning-by-innings list shows a completely inconsistent player.eugene wrote:Matsi and Rainsford are hardly excelling domestically so I see no reason to select them. Matsi had 8 years of opportunities, why give him any more. I can't think of any player ever who has suddenly excelled after 8 years of mediocrity.

But Hhm, even though Vusi was as crap as those you mention for a long time, he then made 12 FC centuries in a short space of time. For all those years before his breakthrough season, he had 1 FC hundred. Then he hit 9! And 3 more since then.
Until he demonstrated that he could dominate the Logan Cup he shouldn't have been given another run, and that is where I agree with Eugene on Matsi, etc. Where I perhaps disagree - though I'm not sure what Eugene thinks - is that if Matsi pulls out 5 hundreds this year, then I think he is worth a go on the reserve bench.
