Maybe we should see if Arshad Baig (7/47), including picking up Zhuwao would like to come an join fellow Pakistani origin player Sikandar Raza in Zimbabwe colours?

All-rounder Chibhabha joins English club

Zimbabwe all-rounder Chamunorwa Chibhabha has joined the list of first-class cricket players leaving for England in search of greener pastures

during the winter off-season.

The Southern Rocks bowler confirmed last week that he has been signed by Harefield Cricket Club in Middlesex on a six-month overseas contract.

The well-travelled all-rounder will be making his maiden English debut following the path of many of the county’s legendary names.

“I signed with Harefield Cricket Club and will be leaving for England this week once all the paper work is finished so that I can catch the first game. Mluleki Nkala set me up with Harefield, he played there a couple of years back and he spoke to them because they were already keen on having me there,” said Chibhabha.

Chibhabha, who has 63 One-Day Internationals and 17 Twenty-20 appearances for Zimbabwe, was not offered a central contract by Zimbabwe Cricket and has no obligation to remain in the country.

A product of the famed Takashinga Academy, the medium-pace bowler was also not selected for the recent Bangladesh tour of Zimbabwe and will not be available when India comes to tour Zimbabwe later on this year.

“I had committed to Harefield before I had even heard about India coming to Zimbabwe so I will be away for six months and will get back just in time for the domestic season. I am only available after September,” he said.

“There is nothing that feels better than representing your country and I would have loved to play India, but I also cherish the experience of playing abroad where I am sure I will also improve my game.’’

Zimbabwe: Mugava Signs for English Club

MID West Rhinos and former Zimbabwe Under-19 spin bowler, Simon Mugava, has signed for English club Westcliff-on-Sea Cricket Club as an overseas player. Mugava, who has not made it into the Zimbabwe squad currently playing against Bangladesh, will be seeking to keep himself active while the domestic first-class season is on a winter break.

The 22-year-old made his overseas debut last year on a six-month contract with Eversley Cricket Club in Hampshire.

His new club is based in Essex and Mugava will be playing in the The Shepherd Neame Cricket League in Essex.

"I was supposed to be part of the MCC junior squad coming after the call-up from Eversley but they decided to recall their old players so I found another club because they already had a player," said Mugava.

Traditionally Zimbabwean cricketers are off season during the winter period.

There is an option to play winter club leagues locally but no remuneration is earned there and non-centrally contracted players like Mugava join the English summer leagues where they can get experience while earning a living.

The English Cricket Board (ECB) makes multi-million annual earnings partnered by a society of well-off cricket supporters are responsible for funding such clubs while Zimbabwe's efforts are always weighed down by financial problems.

"The money there is alright because you get paid weekly and you earn more than you do in Zimbabwe but the most important thing is the learning experience and exposure which will help my career back home," Mugava said.

Currently Mugava has taken 48 wickets in 20 matches at an average of 29.37 in first-class cricket.
