I'm not particularly happy that Duffin was picked ahead of Ewing! I love both of them but unless Ewing is injured, there's a conspiracy to hide his talents from the selectors. The man has been on fire with the bat this season. Surely he's more a ODIT20 player than Duffin, and better at the shorter formats than the 4/5 day game. Unfortunate to be kept from the spotlight.
I think there is a power struggle in the tuskers camp between Horton and Ewing and I am pretty sure HOrton sold HOughton on playing Duffin rather than Ewing. This is only natural just like in any corporate environment because if Ewing performs that puts his place under stress.

From a management perspective I would not invite WHorton or any of the English player next year. Tuskers have failed as a franchise in advancing the sport locally.

I think Ewing showed a lot of class in brushing off the disappointment of not being selected with his comments about it being ok considering he lost his place to the best T20 player in the world today!

as far as your quote is concerned; I agree re the Tuskers. I may not be saying so if they'd made the finals but in truth having the top three 'overseas' players opening the batting was poor form - especially when one of them also opened the bowling...and he looks like a nice guy (and a pretty decent cricketer to boot) but Tuskers had good local talent who occasionally missed out!! :x

on the other hand, on a wider note, I think Trego has added LOTS of value - and i was not that keen pre-tourney on him or the eagles (he, more than any of them have turned me).

It's only worth it for ZC/Dominus to waste money on just 5 marquee signings to be spread across the sides like Tait, Nannes, Gayle, ten doeschate & Trego to attract TV, who SHOULD be mature experienced individuals. Otherwise the second guy shouldn't be brought in just for the tournament it should be a suitable guy who's already playing for the Franchise regularly in all formats. No wicket-keepers, and the other nine players should strictly be Zimbabwean(&interested in representing Zim in international cricket!). The reality is our players, including some fringe Zim players, have done just as well, [...as...] overseas imports whove needlessly filled the sides!
I certainly agree with this!!! ...in essence i agree with you more than not. or 3 per squad, but two on the field in an ideal world - they do, I'm sure, add value somehow

Was Ewing interviewed? Surely he had an injury? Can't possibly have just been not selected for this tournament?

he was interviewed on the boundary and laughed that at least he lost his place to Gayle - i guess that could be interpreted as 'my injury is not so bad as Gayle steps in' ... I took it to mean he'd been dropped but that would be shooting themselves in the foot so maybe he is injured ... sorry, I'm not sure.

Ok. It would have been a thoroughly bizarre, and completely illogical decision to leave him out, were he fit. He has successfully captained the side for 2 years, along with being one of their most consistent batsmen. There is surely no way that Duffin, Trenchard, Staddon would have got a game ahead of him on merit...

This interview was last week during the first game and I dont remember him saying he was injured. I am pretty certain he did not mention any injuries.
I dont understand why Horton who cant clear the boundary and Trenchard whose technique is ridiculous to say the least and Dabengwa whose batting cant get any more ugly are ahead of Ewing I think can score at a run a ball at least and bowl somewhat at least in t20.
Nkala I think said he hoped Ewing would get a game.

I also listened to that interview very closely, and Ewing didn't say anything about being injured. I'm sure will soon know what's the reason.

Very disappointing end to the Tuskers' campaign. There better be a believable explanation for Ewing not taking part. He was clearly the form batsman this season.

Tuskers 3 wins and then 3 straight losses. A surprise. Eagles the exact opposite. Awesome innings from tendo, highest T20 score in Zim ever.
