The national women's cricket team will leave for Nairobi, Kenya on December 10 to compete in the African Women Championship.
Tanzania, who are the reigning champions, would be hard pressed to defend their crown against five countries.
Uganda, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Nigeria and the hosts, Kenya would line up their troops for the tournament.
The national team head coach, Hamis Abdallah disclosed that his provisional squad was faring well in training.
He said the final squad, which travels to Nairobi to defend the title would be named soon.
"All teams are eying the trophy, but with the players I have, its my belief that we're going to retain our title," he said.
The previous tournament took place in Nairobi in 2007 and Tanzania emerged victorious.
Tanzania was among the countries that too an active role in fostering women's cricket in the East and Central Africa.
And now, the sport has gained momentum with more women participating in various local and international events.

And Zimbabwe have withdrawn again!
Is there something else to the story? Or have all the national women's team players busy keeping scores of Logan Cup and Faithwear series?
And Zimbabwe have withdrawn again!
This is ridiculous. What tight schedule do they have? This is second time in a row. Are we even capable of putting together a women's national side?Zimbabwe said a tight schedule and congested calendar had forced them to withdrew from the event.

A number of the womens' squad are scorers, as it happens. But that's no excuse, really - the women haven't played a competitive fixture since the World Cup Qualifiers in Feb '08, so how that counts as a 'congested' fixture list I've no idea...CrimsonAvenger wrote:Or have all the national women's team players busy keeping scores of Logan Cup and Faithwear series?
