Who is Jakiel?

Post by Kriterion_BD »

I have heard a number of posters mention this guy over the past few months. Just wondering who he is because last time I checked he doesn't even have a cricinfo profile. Has he even played in the Logan Cup or any senior domestic cricket in Zimbabwe? Any video clips of his bowling? Curious to know who he is and what is responsible for the hype.

He's a Rainbow Cricket Club 2nd team bowler.. See this forum is full of fans. If you make a 100 or take a Fiver, even in 4th league, they'll shout "get him in the team!!". Look at Carl Mumba.. He took 6 against Sri Lanka Development and people are shouting " get him in the team." Let's promote him to Zim A were he can be really tested and will hone his skills before chucking him in the deep end..

So true but given the current stocks any sign of change will do. Who knows Mumba could pull a Rabada.

The calls for Jakiel are 'tongue in cheek' but Mumba is the real deal .....

Has been at the top of the Logan cup wicket takers lost for 2 seasons now he's young and quick give him a shot !!!

I stated from the beginning Mumba is the "future star" of Zim cricket.. I stated he should have been picked for Zim A (which he was but chose to commit to club cricket in England).. ZC can only pick players that avail themselves.. Sometimes it's nice to comment when you know what's going on than just waffling..

Daniel Jakiel has experienced a meteoric rise from his humble beginnings as a club level death bowling specialist. Originally (and unfairly) labelled a "one trick pony" due to his propensity for bowling yorkers, he has worked on all aspects of his game to the point where his raw pace rivals any of his peers and he has the ability to swing the new ball while getting the old ball to reverse. There aren't many like him it's fair to say, the best comparison I can think of is a combination of Harold Larwood and Wasim Akram.

Furthermore, his batting has been an absolute revelation of late. It was just a few months ago that the rumour mill was swirling that he may be sensationally selected in the NZ Tests as a specialist batsman (opener), but alas Chari was given the nod instead. I guess the selectors thought it was too risky given his lack of FC experience - it was an understandable conclusion, albeit the wrong one in hindsight.

Daniel Jakiel had even signed an IPL contract with the Chennai Super Kings, but due to their ban he was deprived of the opportunity to play in the worlds premier t20 league.
