Zimbabwe has always produced some classic cricketers, but it has been more as opponents. Before Zimbabwe got full member status, only few of the Talented players from Zimbabwe opted for some other nation, but after Zimbabwe got full member status back in 1992, running away of the talented players were stopped. It was bunch of fine talents in 90s that gave Zimbabwe some hope, and improvement was shown in shorter formats, whereas in longer formats, target was mainly to draw, but still zimbabwe lost quite few test matches in that era, but their fights was quite impressive.
In 1999, Zimbabwe had on the likes of Neil Jhonson, Murray Goodwin who lifted the game for Zimbabwe to highest level. But it was the lack of quality administration, payment issues that hampered Zimbabwe Cricket, and the breaking of the group started Jhonson moved to Australia, Goodwin became one of the best demanding batsman in English County Sussex.
It was year 2003, that doomed Zimbabwe Cricket, as the government brought Racial Black Empowerment policiy, forcing whites to be removed from every sector. Nearly 15 talented white players has to move away from Zimbabwe and since then running away of the quality players started at a greater rate.
Payment Issues, Lack of Contract, Racial Quota Policies, made Players like Gary Ballance, Kyle Jarvis, Sean Ervine, Anthony Ireland opted for domestic cricket in UK then National Team. Today much of the talents from Zimbabwe shining for other nation, Gary Ballance struggling at present, is one of the classic batsman for England, Jarvis is highly talented pacer in county side lanchashire. Currans, after their good fast class and under 19 world cup has made into the radar for National Team Selection as they both make it to the England Lions Squad, same with Hilton Cartwright who has better performance with Australia A. Colin de Grandhomme another talented allrounder made debut for NZ in test and had a six-fer against Pakistan.
Others include, Shane Snater,Brendan Sly, Adam Keefe, Shane Snyder, Bradley Evans, Kieran Geyle, Malcolm Lake, James Bruce, Nick Welch, Ed Byrom, Walter Huchu, Solomon Mire all are good names in University Cricket in UK.
First it was whites and now even blacks talents are also ruuning away from Zimbabwe Cricket to other nations
This Running away of the talents is really costing Zimbabwe National Team's Performance as loss has become permanent for Zimbabwe in all the formats for longtime. Long Time failures are nothing but it can be easily noted now that Zimbabwe is clearly running out of talents and administration over the year has failed to set up an infrastructure to keep & nourushing young talents.
