Goodbye Full Membership status?

We know that 99% of ICC proposals never get past the cutting room floor, but still this is pretty worrying:
http://www.espncricinfo.com/ci-icc/cont ... 83806.html
Full Membership of the ICC will no longer be a permanent right but instead a privilege up for review every five years, under proposed sweeping changes to the constitution of cricket's governing body.

In a plan that will open up the game to emergent nations such as Ireland and Afghanistan, while also placing pressure on struggling nations such as Zimbabwe and even West Indies, the ICC's executive board resolved at its February round of meetings in Dubai to push ahead with a fundamental redrawing of the level of accountability faced by Full Members.

Good, maybe the assholes at ZC might realise their golden bank account is about to be closed unless they buck up and behave

Nothing will change. Once a thief always a thief. If they cut us, the top dogs will just cut back on the giggling sycophants and share the smaller pie between fewer of them.

don't see this happening. would be stupid for countries like zim the west indies and even Bangladesh to approve that. there is also a possibility of them decreasing the full members under this proposal and not necessarily promoting anybody. I find it sad that cricket as a whole is trying to shut countries out. the game will never grow at this rate and it looks like some countries want that to happen. instead of celebrating Afghanistans rise and promoting them you get these kind of proposals. don't see what's wrong with having 12 teams play tests.

im sure India will leverage these kind of proposals to get enough numbers to change the distribution of money again.this why they were probably confident that they would overturn that vote

They can still grow cricket whilst cutting Zimbabwe. If we are honest with ourselves we all know that Zimbabwe doesn't deserve full member status.

I hope BD is not targetted under this of course. But I don't think WI, SL, or BD are being targetted here and I think backdoor discussions are always made between all parties at the meetings. Also, everyone knows the ZC chief is there to steal money and doesn't give a shit about cricket unlike the other 9 heads. Thus, you can say "this for teams that lose series to current associate sides only," without the ZC boss being offended.

The reason I say this is the ICC - for whatever reason - is currently looking at a 9-3 tier. That indicates BD, WI, and SL are safe for the forseeable future.

The 7-5 proposal was targetting WI and BD, and less directly SL and NZ. SL joined BD in convincing the BCCI to block that, whereas WI and NZ supported at their own peril.

Cricket is also about money and ratings like any other sport. The potential of Bangladesh cricket is sizeable if not massive. We are 5th behind only the big 3 plus Pakistan. Economic projections are for Bangladesh to be the 23rd largest economy in PPP terms by 2050, with Pakistan at 16th.

It was the support of strong boards that kept Zimbabwe enjoying " full member status".
Zimbabwe should have been scrapped off after that 2003 incident.
