Re: Butcher New Zimbabwe Coach?
n Butcher appointed head coach of Zimbabwe national cricket team
February 20th, 2010
Alan Butcher, the former England left-hand opener has been appointed as the head coach of the Zimbabwe national cricket team.
Mountaineers coach Steve Mangongo comes in as the assistant coach whole former Zimbabwe players Heath Streak and Grant Flower are the bowling and batting coaches.
Looking at Butcher’s stats, he has played one Test and one One Day International and he is the man meant to take Zimbabwe back to the big stage.
All types of conspiracy theories have come from across the divide but it is a bit too early at the moment to speculate too much

Re: Butcher New Zimbabwe Coach?
Would have preferred Heath Streak apposed to Butcher. I've seen him at Surrey and i didn't like his methods of coaching. Having sad that, i'm glad that Grant Flower is in the mix

It from a weird social networking sight and is the feed of a person who i think is a Zimbabwean journolist, but they broke the news about Greg Smith signing for the Mountaineers so they have a little credibility and if they are hearing the same thing as you.maehara wrote:Link?
I warn you there are some weird opinions of his feed

But Butcher is an experienced coach and Streak isnt, the fact is the Streak and Flower have no experiance in coaching and i think its a decent combination of an experienced coach with two up and coming coaches who know the Zimbabwe system.sloandog wrote:Would have preferred Heath Streak apposed to Butcher. Butcher had a very average side at Surrey as apart from Ramperkash they did not have any international standard players.

Will they start in the T20 world cup or straight away for the West Indies tour?maehara wrote:Confirmed. The new technical team was announced by Alastair Campbell and Ozias Bvute at a press conference at Harare Sports Club this morning.
Re: Butcher New Zimbabwe Coach?
I think this is excellent news. Streak and Flower are both involved, and can concentrate their time on their specialist areas, without having to worry to much about the overall direction for the team, dealing with the press, etc. Butcher is a very experienced coach, and a very level headed guy from interviews I have seen with him. I think it will also be an advantage to have an overseas coach (especially English) as Zim try to regain test status and encourage other teams to tour. Don't know much about Mangondo, but he can't have been doing a bad job at the Mountaineers, and will therefore presumably have a good working relationship with many of the national team regulars.
