Zimbabwe Tour of Netherlands 2017 fixtures released

Post by Black Mamba »

Zimbabwe will play three One-Day Internationals against Netherlands in June, Zimbabwe Cricket confirmed on Wednesday (April 12). The tour will be held after they play two ODIs against Scotland on June 15 and 17.
The squad will then play their matches on June 20, 22 and 24 before they head to Sri Lanka to play one Test and a limited-overs series.
Wilfred Mukondiwa, the Zimbabwe Cricket managing director, said the matches will help the team prepare for the upcoming tour. "We are pleased to confirm Zimbabwe will be touring the Netherlands as part of a potentially exciting and competitive five-game programme that will also see us visiting Scotland for two of the matches," he gushed.
"While the tour will give our boys the much-needed game time and a feel of unfamiliar conditions, it will also go a long way in preparing our team for the tougher series away to Sri Lanka."

Fixtures:

June 20 - 1st ODI vs Netherlands
June 22 - 2nd ODI vs Netherlands
June 24 - 3rd ODI vs Netherland

Netherlands could give some tough times to Zimbabwe. Players like
Stephan Myburgh, Cooper, Vaan de Gugten are popular names in English County & Australia.

Zimbabwe might have to face once Zimbabwean " Shane Snater " who is a Dutch now.

None of the reports seems to be raising this question. They definitely don't have the ODI status. Or has something changed of late? They would just be List A.

When are the ODI status Qualifiers ( not sure what they're called but it's the tournament once every 4 years to determine who get odi status from the associates ). Or do they have a new way of deciding who has odi status now ??

We're a test nation I have no problem playing Associates with odi status but surely this is just embarrassing? Name another full member to play a list A series ?

From Cricinfo:
Unlike the two matches against Scotland, the three matches against Netherlands may not be classified as ODIs since Netherlands does not currently have ODI status after losing it in January 2014. However, Netherlands currently sits in first place on the WCL Championship table - the limited overs competition featuring the top eight Associates outside of the ODI rankings table - effectively making them the 13th ranked team in 50-over cricket. Zimbabwe are currently 11th on the ODI rankings table, one spot ahead of Ireland but one behind Afghanistan.

As far as i know its the 2018 WC qualifiers aka ICC Trophy. Top 2 teams qualify for the 2019 WC, and presumably top 8 have ODI status. But the equation may change if the 13 team ODI league is approved.

ICC recently, decided to promote associates at the top level in odis & t20s by giving them matches against test playing nations, as a result status tag has become invalid for teams playing in divison 1
