Is Nyumbu the worst spinner Zim have ever produced ?

Post by The Robot »

John Nyumbu, the veteran off spinner of Zimbabwe, playing for the Tuskers seems to be worst then average spinner Zimbabwe have ever produced. He made his first class debut back in 2004 and his 13 years bowling career looks horryfying

Mat, Wkts, Best Bowling, Ave, SR

Tests
3,5 5/157, 75.80, 132.6
ODIs
19, 17, 3/42, 43.41, 49.6
First-class
67, 179, 6/59, 33.19 63.4
List A
78,75 4/19, 35.65, 47.3
Twenty20
28, 16 3/38, 34.75, 29.2

Seeing his bowling stats, and looking at the bowling average, its difficult to judge wheather he is a bowler or batsman. As, such average appears only for the batsman generally. He took 179 first class wickets in 67 matches, with a strike rate of 63.4 which means he approximately takes 10 overs to take his first wicket in a four day game. His strike rate in all the formats looks quite annoying for a premier spinner of his franchise.

His five fors and other best bowling figures has come off by conceding more then hundred runs. Clearly, its look really poor how spinner like him is still playing costing some young skilled spinner warming in the bench. He is 31, and his skills at the international arena doesnt looked threatening, in recent test against New Zealand his inclusion in the team was quite surprising.

Time for Zimbabwe to groom spinners like Tapiwa Mufudza, Ndoluvu, N M'shangwe, Roche and Madhevere in domestic cricket and throw out this type of useless dumb performers
Robo to rule
