Unusual Press Release of the Day:
HACKERS FORCE ZC TO UNDERTAKE ONLINE SECURITY UPGRADES
Following a series of security breaches on private and corporate email accounts and on its official website, Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) has temporarily deactivated all its communications platforms for the purpose of carrying out security upgrades.
The ZC IT department has unearthed doctored emails which were put in circulation both on its internal communications and outside directories, the hackers override the security passwords and generate scurrilous emails about the private lives of individuals.
"Since the security breach was first detected in December 2009, several ZC employees have fallen victim to malicious hackers who have broken into private and company email accounts for the purpose of either generating emails in the name of the organization or circulating classified information," said ZC's head of media & communications, Shingai Rhuhwaya.
The official ZC website was also compromised late last year when visitors to the website were unsuspectingly redirected to other sites.
"The security breach is serious. We communicate regularly with our foreign-based counterparts on a variety of sensitive issues including local and international player travelling logistics, banking details and future tours programmes", said Rhuhwaya.
As a result, ZC has deactivated all previous communications platforms for the purpose of carrying out security upgrades. The upgrades may result in a temporary disturbance of telecommunications and email and ZC estimates the process will take up to a month to complete.
"While we undertake these necessary measures we would like to warn all our players, officials, staff, suppliers and other service providers to verify the content of emails received during this time and apologize for any inconvenience caused," said Rhuhwaya.
