There's some merit.
Hacks like hammy need to be chopped and placed with a guy like Burl at the top. Sink or swim.

They say whites are better swimmers so surely this is a good strategy.

The only fail to the theory is the assumption that opening is a burden.
If you prefer the new ball then it doesn't take much to make runs with balls still new and harder than mine.
