Best & Worst in tour of Europe 2017

Post by The Robot »

Best :

1) Solomon Mire finally found some touch in his batting with aggressive instinct. Can be seen as more improved player in future.

2) Ervine & Williams continued to show their crisis time skills in holding the team. Williams can still bowl some tight line being part timer. Ervine & Williams still the pillar of middle order, no performance have been seen to replace them.

3) Time to rate Sikandar Raza's off spin as a regular spinner then part time, he has brought some variety in his bowling needs to be more consistent with the bat

4) Cremer & Chatara shown why they are the only main bowlers who could trouble the opponents. Donald Tiripano bowled ok, but it seems he suits more in slow pitches then green seaming tracks

5) Malcolm Waller batting has been stand out, could fit in as a role of a finisher as his big hits were brilliant to watch

Worst :

1) Opening Pair continue to disappoint. Time for Hamilton Masakadza to retire, after failing regularly over last 1.5 years. Opening Pair hasn't done well for long time. Time to search a new face in opening combination with Mire.

2) Chamu Chibhabha should only play domestic cricket. Like Many times in past, this time he was picked for scoring runs against Canada & Namibia, while representing Zimbabwe A side. He is unfit for international arena. A big question mark on a top order player who played 100 odis, still to hit a ton. His bowling is average, can't be a go to man to take 5 or more wickets and blow away the opposition

3) Zimbabwe biggest disappointment after retirement of Brendan Taylor is the Wicket Keeper position. Zimbabwe Selectors needs to think beyond Peter Moor, Regis Chakabva & Richamond Mutumbami as all these have failed. New face is needed with some superb batting ability, no need to go back and bring those old failures.

4) Ryan Burl, Brian Chari, Richard Ngarava & Teri Musakanda were thrown as the future of Zimbabwe Cricket but are still immatured. Haven't taken their precious opportunity given to them. With domestic games, A games & international games, they have been given many chances over last one year After few more matches their " talents" might be under a scanner.

5) Solomon Mire bowling requires improvement to be the option as a support to the pacers. Needs to be more tight and bring venom in his bowling. Zimbabwe bowling department look only on Cremer & Chatara, rest all have been less penetrative.

6) Leaving his 4 wicket haul Chris Mpofu has done worst. Being a experienced leader in seam attack, players of associate nation has been aggressive on him, haven't given the break through Zimbabwe needed for him

7) Bench Strength is purely empty, none could match with the senior performers.

Zimbabwe have'nt played like a full member test playing nation. Zimbabwe Cricket level has now become less then Afghans, Irish & equivalent to Netherland & Scotland.
Robo to rule

I feel it was probably the best squad available they could have picked. Maybe mumba or Waller could have been there too

When it comes to the tour of Europe, skill required for the bowlers are seam & swing. Among the present Zimbabwe Team, Brian Vitori is the only one who has got the skill of swinging the bowl His return would depend on Zimbabwe's success in the Qualifiers.

Giving time is really iritating when it comes to Zimbabwe Cricket Team. Talent like Chibhabha played 100 odis, batting at the top still to hit an odi ton. Its still difficult to beleive if he can do it even he is given 100 more odis :)
Chigumbura played more then 200 odis whose batting avg looks like bowling avg and bowling avg looks like batting,

Persisting with new players is best only if he show glimpse of some improvement, at present none of the youths shown that performance, they can't do it against the associates, what they will do against the big teams. Probably, youths are clearly to come off as average seasonal failures like their seniors Chibhabha, Mpofu & Chigumbura

Zimbabwe and their fans have to stop this mentality of 'he is a good hitter late in the innings' and out people down at number 7 or so.

Since when in the last half a decade do you use your hitters at the end?
Professional teams use them at the top, to inflict maximum damage when they get going and take the game away.

I have seen Waller go berserk on the bowlers then run out of overs. I used to see Elton do the same when he was still relevant.

That said, I don't think Waller has the technique to handle the new ball but he deserves a number 4 or 5 promotional he is the immediate future.

Using him to hit earlier with proper license makes some sense Dogg.

Terry Musakanda should be tried in openning spot. He can hit as well as rotate strike, the problem he faced in few odis he played is the pressure of the fall of early wickets. His attitude should be seen, how he bats at the top without less pressure
