[Discussion] Why there's no Tinotenda Mawayo in test squad ?

Post by Detective RDS »

Can anybody throw some light in it ?

He's a crafty batsman and can bat for a long time.

Is he injured or what ? Don't think he performed poorly to be dropped.

Zimbabwe will miss him. Who will open with Masakadza in the test ?Musakanda/Chakabva/Raza/Burl ?

It could well be lack of fitness. He was injured during the season and became overweight during his recovery. He was aware of the problem and was trying to put it right, but may well not have reached the required standard by the time the team was selected.

No need to select a batsman who makes 2 run in 100 balls. Test cricket is not so slow today, his objective is to bat wiyhout scoring runs. Even Chari is better then him who gets out if he doesnt score.

If Mawoyo was twice the size of Dwayne "The Earthshaker" Leverock I'd still have him open!

Yea I'm with BRM. I would feel much more comfortable seeing him stride out that Chari.

Mawoyo is an absolute must in our test team. He really needs to work on his fitness and layoff the KFC.

Asking the same question again, why there's no Tinotenda Mawayo in the test squad ?

It looks like he has played FC & List A cricket this year for Mountaineers.

What's his playing status ?

It’s a good question actually. Maybe someone who they have moved on from the way we want the electors to move on from Elton?

Regardless of who is in charge, the Zimbabwean selectors never really get things right. I honestly think many on this forum would make better selectors than who we have had over the years. So many perplexing decisions, a lack of understanding of pitch conditions, game scenarios, etc. We have lived through scenarios like a non-batting or bowling Chigumbura occupying a spot in the team, the madness of Coventry being tried as an opener at the CWC, Matsi and Waller getting selected despite years of failure, Cremer being considered a test-only player, the list goes on.
