Picking performers of odi will not work in Test Cricket. Its not a game of playing part timers, it requires specialist players 6 batters including keeper, 1 genuine allrounder pacer/ seamer and 4 best ballers.

Facing Spinners in a detoriated track is same as facing fast bowlers in green track, both requires skill and technique for resistance

This would be my lineup with Taylor returning. The opening spots are tough to call, I wouldn't even mind seeing Hammy and BT swap places in the order. BT opening is a bold move, but I am sure he could succeed, whereas Chakabva will never succeed as an opener.

1. Hamilton Masakadza
2. Sikandar Raza
3. Craig Ervine
4. Brendan Taylor
5. Tarisai Musakanda
6. Sean Williams
7. Regis Chakabva (w)
8. Malcolm Waller
9. Graeme Cremer (c)
10. Carl Mumba
11. Tendai Chatara
What format is this?

That wasn't too difficult a task
In case you didn't notice, it proved my point.

I was selecting for tests. Chakabva and Moor along with Mutumbami and hopefully Murray are essentially fighting for one spot. Just as I was ready to ditch Moor he comes through with a great knock. His power batting is unrivaled in Zim cricket at the moment. Chakabva certainly isn't a power player.

I see. So you're still selecting Hami as an opener even though he probably averages 9 now in about 7 Tests opening? You're not against Taylor opening so like you said - swop those two. There's only room for one of Williams or Malcolm and room for one of Musakanda, Burl or Moor.

No, there is room for both Williams and Waller and they must both be selected. Masakadza as an opener doesn't make my happy, but nobody else opening makes me happy either - a real problem position for Zimbabwe. We have an abundance of middle order batsmen and sacrificing one of them for a "specialist" opener (if we even have any) is a tough proposition. PJ Moor averages an ok(ish) 21.25 as an opener in all forms combined, but he really is better suited as lower order slugger. Thoughts on Burl as an opener?

Williams and Waller are currently doing enough to stay in the side. but in Test cricket there really isnt room for bits n pieces players like Waller. he's done well here but he needs to threaten triple figures to prove his place. willy is an enigma of the Sibanda mould...talent but doesnt have the averages you would expect.

if Burl has a 44 FC avg, he deserves a go. and I think Tary has potential and should get a full season of Tests before being dropped.

Williams is far superior to Sibanda, but he does suffer from the same inconsistencies. Waller is only making my lineup due to his current form. Before the SL tour I was pretty much done with him for a while, but he is proving me wrong at the moment. Zimbabwe, due to our small player base will always have a couple of bits and pieces players in the lineup. Guys like Marillier, Viljoen were such players in the past.
