500: the Promised Land

How hard is it to score 500?
Well India with their world class lineup just scored 487 with the following advantages:
- a flat batting wicket
- an opposition bowling attack as toothless as a newborn's gums
- with an opening wicket stand of 188 runs
So scoring 500, on any sort of wicket, against any side is still a difficult task. But a general rule of thumb is that a first innings score of 500 almost guarantees you won't lose a Test match.
