“To ensure we do not disappoint our loyal fans over the traditional Boxing Day period and to take advantage of our brand-new lights at St George’s Park, we will host Zimbabwe in the first ever 4-day D/N Test match to be played. The Test status of the match is subject to ICC approval.

What the fuck in 4-day D/N Test? are they trying to insult Zimbabwe?

So, there's breaking news, however bizarre it is!
South Africa to host Zimbabwe for a FOUR-day day-night Test in Port Elizabeth on Boxing Day, though Test status subject to ICC approval
Tristan Holme on Twitter: https://twitter.com/tristanholme/status/

Quite ridiculous really. Why make it a 4 day "test" and bring all the uncertainties in? If you can roll over Zim in 2 and a half days, why bother whether it is a 5 day proper test or 4 day?
Surely, brainless discussions between CSA and ZC to arrive at something as bizarre as this.

This is ridiculous, I can't see it being approved Test status from the ICC.

might not be the worst idea in the world..lets see what the ICC says..how many tests last 5 days these days anyway? It would give smaller teams something to fight for and increase run rates as the bigger teams will score faster to give themselves time to win..either way something needs to be done to save test cricket and this might be it.

What a stupid idea, just make it a 5 day game. How insulting.

Tests should be 5 days to ensure a result. otherwise its just a first class fixture.

if they can play 4 days why not 5?

Scheduling constraints. India demanded a practice match before their series which will be played on December 30 and 31.

Tests are not dying. We have seen more nail biters in the last 5 years than the couple of decades before that. Our own recent tests vs Sri Lanka went down to the wire on day 5. There is no need to change anything. This is an utterly bad precedent by CSA and ZC.

But that should not matter for the test match. India should play some Board President's XI or some such thing. Why should that affect the test match?

Does BCCI want undivided attention of the spectators to their practice match? They are to blame too if that is the case.

Tests are not dying, but interest in them is. How many spectators were at the ground in our recent nail biter against SL? Even India v Australia tests draw meagre crowds.
