Your Zimbabwe team after West Indies series

Post by eugene »

Now that the series against the West Indies is over, what does your ideal Zimbabwe team look like. This is mine - although I havent taken into account any injuries surrounding Sean Williams or Kyle Jarvis. I am not sure about Blugnaut eligibility at this stage but I have included him anyway.

1. Hamilton Masakadza
2. Brendan Taylor
3. Sean Williams
4. Tatenda Taibu
5. Charles Coventry
6. Elton Chigumbura
7. Andy Blignaut
8. Prosper Utseya
9. Graeme Cremer
10. Ray Price
11. Kyle Jarvis

12. Craig Ervine
13. Forster Mutizwa
14. Tawanda Mupariwa
15. Edward Rainsford

I would also keep in consideration for a wider squad:
Greg Lamb
Vusi Sibanda
Malcolm Waller
Neil Johnson, Alistair Campbell, Murray Goodwin, Andy Flower (w), Grant Flower, Dave Houghton, Guy Whittall, Heath Streak (c), Andy Blignaut, Ray Price, Eddo Brandes

I have gone out on a limb with Craig Ervine but I think he deserves a chance in light of everyone else's failures. Also I have promoted Brendan Taylor to opening which is where he began his international career. I think we need our best batsmen at the top with Masakadza, Taylor, Williams, and Taibu with Chigumbura, Coventry, and Blignaut coming in to up the run rate in the last 10-15 overs.

I'd see that Doge Marrilliar gets a go.

1. D Marillier
2. H Masakadza
3. M Goodwin ( got a couple of years left in him)
4. S Ervine
5. T Taibu
6. A Blignaut
7. E Chigumbura
8. G Lamb
9. A Cremer
10. R Price
11. A Ireland

This is Zimbabwes best chance of being competitive in the near future... anything team other than this will never be up to international standard :|

If we are playing a match tomorrow, this is what I would go with (Sibanda, Jarvis not considered due to injury issues):

Playing XI
------------
Hamilton Masakadza
Forster Mutizwa
Tatenda Taibu (C)
Sean Williams
Charles Coventry
Andy Blignaut (I'll have him just as a batter, even if he is not fit enough to bowl. He was impressive with his calm approach in T20s, problem was Tuskers left too much to him in almost every match, and he was sent in too late most of the times)
Elton Chigumbura
Graeme Cremer
Shingi Masakadza
Prosper Utseya / Chris Mpofu (depending on type of pitch)
Ray Price

In Squad
-----------
Ed Rainsford
Greg Lamb
Brendan Taylor
