Re: Afghanistan tour announced No Test match !!!!
Was really looking forward to watching this Test and hopefully the Afghans maiden Test victory...but Id imagine us fans will have to wait a long time. WCQs run till the end of March but the average temp in UAE shoots up to near 40 degrees in April and wont get to 35 until November. Only way for this series to be played would be if ZIM hosted the Test match. should alos be a 2 Test series...

sad that they are failing to find opponents. you have you got to ask yourself how many tests will both Ireland and Afghanistan play next year if Zim barely gets game time. don't see them going past 3 each which defeats the purpose

I really am struggling to see why they just don't play each other even if a one off test ? such a waste , I get WCQ are coming up but surely if you are going to do a tour as both are test playing nations and don't play much , or never have like AFG you would have a one off test. Anyway I hope we can fire and finally get back at them from recent results.

So Zimbabwe can’t afford to host Tests
It’s too hot in UAE for Afghanistan to ‘host’ a test between April and November
It’s rains all the time in Ireland
I can’t see there being much Test cricket between the tier 2 nations

Forgot about day night Tests in UAE. You can play in 80 degree weather any month lf the year.
But yeah ZIM not hosting and Ireland being rainy really affects things. But the Test fund isnt needed because all nations barring India are making more money now than before. So hosting 6 tests a year shouldnt a problem.
The other option is to have a traingular Test tournament twice a year where all 3 Test teams play the others double robin. Thats 8 tests a year in two blocks. Have a Boxing Day lineup of ZIM vs IRE in the UAE and then have a July to September clash in Ireland.
Triangular Test series. Get it done.

that's a really good idea.. it's all a matter of scheduling I guess because I'm assuming you would need maybe 6/7 weeks to pull of a triangular test series.. but it's not a bad idea at all. it would bring context to the whole thing too. instead of just playing meaningless games when the test league kicks off. this is a brilliant idea. so many possible outcomes. ICC should sponsor it.

UAE will agree to host ? its doubtfull. They earn more from PCB and hosting various other T20 tournaments including PSL and few T20 tournaments of English County followed by UAE 's own T20 League, Domestic games and T10 the latest popular edition to kick off.

Re: Afghanistan tour announced No Test match !!!!
I know this probably should be posted in the other cricket forum "Afghanistan watch 2016-2018", but there is some relevance.
The Afghan first class domestic comp is about half way through. Between their domestic 20/20 comp & the first class comp there was an Inter-continental cup match against Hong Kong, which they won comfortably. Only one player in that team is playing the first class comp. 2 others are in the BPL (Rashid Khan & Md Nabi) as well as 2 other Afghans. But the others have gone AWOL & there is another Inter continental Cup match this week against UAE.
So, the senior players played in the Afghan 50 over List A domestic comp as well as their 20/20 comp, then nothing. This includes Asghar Stanikzai, Afsar Zazai, Dawlat Zadran, Ihsanullah Janat, Rahmat Shah, Yamin Ahmadzai & Javed Ahmadi. Also, others who have represented Afghanistan recently in shorter formats haven't fronted.
I don't think they are interested in test cricket or the longer format.
On another note some kid called Baheer Shah has blitz the domestic comp with over 900 runs in 6 matches, which apparently is the best ever start to a career.
Any way, any future Afghan posts will go into the other forum.

Yes UAE will agree because its the ICC HQ. There are the ICC Academy grounds plus AFG's home ground in Sharjah which all have first class certification, so only a matter of an inspection to get Test status.Black Mamba wrote: ↑Thu Nov 23, 2017 7:41 amKriterion_BD wrote: ↑Thu Nov 23, 2017 4:18 amForgot about day night Tests in UAE. As Taps said, triangular Test tourney would only require 6-7 weeks and would provide excellent context as well. A sample schedule:
Nov 1-5 Afg vs Zim, Sharjah
Nov 10-14, Afg vs Ire, ICC Academy ground
Nov 19-23, Zim vs Ire, Sharjah
Dec 1-5, Afg vs Ire, ICCAG
Dec 9-13, Afg vs Zim, Sharjah
Dec 17-21, Zim vs Ire, Sharjah
Team with most points wins, 2nd and 3rd place follow from there. Both Zim and Ire can make it home in time for Xmas holidays.
Do the same thing in Ireland from July to August or whenever it rains least.
