By Mehluli Sibanda
MATABELELAND Tuskers could lose two of their star batsmen Dion Ebrahim and Sean Williams who are apparently at loggerheads with coach Robin Brown.
Sources have revealed that the two players are highly unlikely to be part of the Tuskers set up next season. Ebrahim is expected to sign up for Harare based Mashonaland Eagles while Williams is said to be on his way to Kwekwe where he intends joining Midwest Rhinos.
Ebrahim, who made a return to the domestic scene after spending a number of years abroad, pulled out of Tuskers’ last Logan Cup match away to Southern Rocks for unclear reasons, a move that increased speculation that he was on his way out. This newspaper has it on good authority that Staddon recently met with Ebrahim and the player was not happy with what Staddon said to him at the meeting and that could prompt him to leave the Bulawayo based franchise.
Left-handed batsman Williams has not seen much action this season because of injury and indiscipline. He was left out of Zimbabwe’s squad for West Indies last month after Brown told the national selectors that he did not know of his whereabouts when in fact he was recovering from injury. The talented batsman who used to be a regular in the national team was also omitted from Zimbabwe’s squad for the International Cricket Council World Twenty20 set for West Indies at the end of this month despite having been named in the provisional 30 member squad and having done well for Tuskers at the Stanbic Bank Twenty20 series held in Harare. He is convinced that playing under Brown is inhibiting his chances of playing for the national team.
Hard-hitting batsman Mark Vermeulen, a talented but controversial player is unlikely to have his contract renewed because of his erratic behaviour. Vermeulen has not played in the Logan Cup for the Tuskers first team this year due to his wayward actions. Vermeulen was recently thrown out of the Tuskers camp during the Stanbic Bank Twenty20 series in Harare when he damaged property in the changing room after getting what he believed was a bad umpiring decision. The sponsors are said to have asked the Tuskers team management to drop Vermeulen, as they had to pay for the damage in the changing room.
Repeated efforts to get hold of Matabeleland Tuskers franchise chief executive officer Stanley Staddon were fruitless as his mobile phone was unreachable.

Re: Ebrahim, Williams to leave Tuskers?
Sounds like the whole Tuskers organization is a disaster and perhaps for the benefit of Williams and Ebrahims cricket they need to get out of there and make fresh starts. If the reason why Williams did not go to the west indies was because Brown said he didnt know where he was then that is diabolical.
The Rhinos and the Eagles will be getting two very good players. Just hope they remain in Zim cricket.

If Sean Williams missed out for this reason from touring WI, it is aghasting! How can the national board base their decisions on what a franchise personnel has to say about your best player? They could have easily cross checked it with Sean himself.Left-handed batsman Williams has not seen much action this season because of injury and indiscipline. God forbid, but if we lose Sean Williams from representing Zim again, this time the establishment is to be blamed, that too the new and exciting one. Very very discouraging news indeed, about the management, and about the Tuskers.

Cant see Williams leaving Zim cricket again as the game is in the best state its been in since 2003 in terms of struture and amount of matches being played (one of Willimas previous greivances).CrimsonAvenger wrote:If Sean Williams missed out for this reason from touring WI, it is aghasting! I think if anything this just highlights the shambles of the Tuskers compared to franchises like the Eagles and the Rhinos who have seemed to be very well run.
Isnt it intresting the Stan Staddon always seems to be in the middle of controversy?

Indeed. If these stories turn out to be true, one thing is for certain, you can count another official supporter for Rhinoszimfan1 wrote:I think if anything this just highlights the shambles of the Tuskers compared to franchises like the Eagles and the Rhinos who have seemed to be very well run.

It is concerning to read about more erratic behaviour from Mark Vermeulen.

I agree, if Vermuelan wants to make a fresh start with the Zimbabwean national team, his behavior needs to be improved dramatically. Campbell and the selectors will be looking at this and shaking their headseugene wrote:It is concerning to read about more erratic behaviour from Mark Vermeulen.
