It’s just about winning the Ireland game now.

Post by ZIMDOGGY »

The mathematics of it.

All games assume we beat UAE.
All games assume Ireland dispatch Scotland and afg as they are expected too.

If we beat WI. Largely irrelevant (unless Scotland win too.

WI win, ireland loss= Zim 7 points. Ireland 8 points.

WI loss, Ireland win=Zim 7 points. Ireland 6 points

As you can see, the windies game is irrelevant win lose or draw. Scotland are unlikely to exceed our NRR on equal points too.

if we beat Ireland, the rest takes care of itself, including if other games have upsets.

Any game involving Ireland and a rain out is advantageous to us.

UAE game must not be rained out.

I think we can beat the Irish. We need Taylor and Raza to keep up the form and Cephas to give us a rollicking start. I think Zhuwao will be alright against the Irish new ball bowlers. And we need a good finish with the bat from No.7 and 8. Williams has been good with the ball, but with the bat he's yet to make a big one. Cremer is very useful as a batsman. And our bowling seems spot on, especially with Cremer and Chisoro doing well. The pace battery needs to revert to Jarvis, Chatara and Blessing. With Cremer at 8 and Williams and Raza offering very dependable spin options, our bowling looks well set. I think the advantage is slightly with us.

Ireland's bowling is nothing too amazing, and they aren't a spin heavy attack so we should be ok on the batting front. Plus we tend to play better in Harare than in Bulawayo.

Afghanistan are the joker card in all of this if they beat Ireland and maybe even the Windies that would be a big help for us.

Considerig the irish are largely based in seam friendly british and aussie comditions, they will struggle against the spinners so its very possible.

especially the irish as if afghans bowl well they can restrict them to 200, the afghans should be capable of getting that

Scots actually have a minor NRR advantage over ZIM already. Negligible, but given they've played the same opposition, it means they *can* bat at least as well as the Zimmers.

Scots are a very decent batting side. ZIM's bowlers have actually done very well keeping their composure in pressure situations. Both Afghanistan and Scotland were in commanding positions chasing against ZIM and both failed to pull off wins which would have all but eliminated ZIM from contention.

Stephen King couldn't write a better thriller.

They are just coming off a series win against Afghanistan in Sharjah so don't think the spin really bothers them. After the first game where they were bowled for 100, they seemed to work out how to play on a turning wicket and post 271 in game 2 & chase 180 with 12 overs left in game 3.

they are just red hot in all departments at the moment.

The Irish really worry me , Like really worry me. The top 4 is probably the best in this tournament and Kevin O’Brien can finish a innings on his day just as good as anyone , especially against bang average bowling. If it comes down to beating the Irish like zimdoggy has pointed out that really worries me. Anyway it’s a game of 11 on 11 and the best 11 wins on the day , hopefully the locals can get down and support the boys like they should . I think we really need to bring in the 8-3 combo for this game , have pj at 8. Not
Sure who should miss out , glad I’m not the selectors or coaching staff.
