The mathematics of it.

All games assume we beat UAE.
All games assume Ireland dispatch Scotland and afg as they are expected too.

If we beat WI. Largely irrelevant (unless Scotland win too.

WI win, ireland loss= Zim 7 points. Ireland 8 points.

WI loss, Ireland win=Zim 7 points. Ireland 6 points

As you can see, the windies game is irrelevant win lose or draw. Scotland are unlikely to exceed our NRR on equal points too.

if we beat Ireland, the rest takes care of itself, including if other games have upsets.
Scots actually have a minor NRR advantage over ZIM already. Negligible, but given they've played the same opposition, it means they *can* bat at least as well as the Zimmers.

Scots are a very decent batting side. ZIM's bowlers have actually done very well keeping their composure in pressure situations. Both Afghanistan and Scotland were in commanding positions chasing against ZIM and both failed to pull off wins which would have all but eliminated ZIM from contention.

Stephen King couldn't write a better thriller.
How you figure Scotland ahead?
Scots NRR is 0.8 and Zims is 1.035

The Irish really worry me , Like really worry me. The top 4 is probably the best in this tournament and Kevin O’Brien can finish a innings on his day just as good as anyone , especially against bang average bowling. If it comes down to beating the Irish like zimdoggy has pointed out that really worries me. Anyway it’s a game of 11 on 11 and the best 11 wins on the day , hopefully the locals can get down and support the boys like they should . I think we really need to bring in the 8-3 combo for this game , have pj at 8. Not
Sure who should miss out , glad I’m not the selectors or coaching staff.
The only way we can progress with an irish loss is unrealistic.
We would need to beat the Windies for a start. Although that wouldnt help us leapfrog them at all.
We would need to get to 7 points straight away.

In this scenario Ireland are on at least 6. 2 points they have, 2 from us, and they will win at least obe of the Scots and Afg game.

Losing to Scotland would actually catapult them into the driver seat to getting 7, meaning we would have to rape UAE, and I'm talking anally, because they would certainly have had a good NRR if they beat the irish.

To summarise, if we lose to Ireland, the below has to play out (not including rain out scenarios)

We must beat the Windies
Afg must beat the irish, and hopefully the windies
The scots lose to Windies
Scots lose to either Afg or Windies.

Overall we actually have a good record v Ireland in ODI cricket

Played 9
Zimbabwe 5
Ireland 3
1 Tie

But in World Cup / Tournament matches the Irish has ever the upper hand

Played 3 ( including t20 )

Ireland 2

1 tie

We are yet to beat Ireland at a world tournament

1. Zhuwao
2. Mire
3. Ham
4. BT
5. Ervine
6. Raza
7. Williams
8. Cremer
9. Chisoro
10. Jarvis
11. Chatara

Time for seriousness. Muzarabani leaks far too many for crucial games like this.

That’s more or less where I was going with this.
Maybe I’d play PJ instead of Chisoro if the wicket doesn’t the look like it will turn.
The better sides will not be fazed by Blessing and he leaks runs.

Path of Ireland is more clear, they just have to defeat Zimbabwe as they have edge over Scotland and Afghanistan. Irish team is more talented then that 2015 side.

I sincerely hope I’m wrong and that Cephas comes good, particularly against Ireland, but I think he’s going to struggle against the better bowling attacks. His inclusion against the lesser sides was wholly justified, but they’re not going to bowl it in his arc. Trying to go at 200% strike rate regardless of what’s bowled at you won’t work often against a good seam attack. No one in world cricket is pulling that off consistently, not even Gayle, Roy or Warner. If he could just pick and choose a bit more carefully without trying to change his game too much.
