I seem to be the only person that advocates this top down approach
It's a good approach. Focus on the national sides that bring back the bacon and the grassroots at the same time re-engage the schools(most have left in disgust from ZC sponsored crap as the thieves would get money for age groups and then beg the schools to provide accommodation, transport and fuel and then pocket the money from ZC) the schools must create our players with strong coaching and guidance. ZC can sponsors free coaching courses to the schools that struggle.

came across this article, of particular importance was that of Zimbabwe Cricket.. took out the important issue to us and the opportunities that lie ahead..

https://www.lords.org/news/2018/august/ ... tatements/

The main outcomes of the meeting are as follows:

Zimbabwe
After hearing reports from ICC Chief Executive David Richardson, and Vintcent van der Bijl (MCC World Cricket committee member and a consultant to Zimbabwe Cricket), the World Cricket committee agreed that the measures put in place by ICC had created a more positive environment for Zimbabwe Cricket and that there was cause for optimism for the future. It was also noted that the World Cup qualifying tournament in Zimbabwe, which included Scotland and Ireland, was completed successfully.

MCC has observed the outcome of recent elections and has taken advice from the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) and ECB regarding the possibility of touring Zimbabwe. No objections have been received.

The committee was in agreement that MCC should continue to monitor the situation and should consider sending a team to tour Zimbabwe once conditions were right. The strength of the team should be decided in consultation with Zimbabwe Cricket so as to provide the most helpful opposition to create opportunities for the appropriate level of cricketers.

There is also a pic posted by ZC of Cremer and BT back in training so I guess the money has gone through. I would rather see pics of Williams and Ervine though. Those guys are my main concern here. You can never be 100% sure with these guys. There is always a twist somewhere

ja saw it on twitter too.. you never know with ZC, they could have been thrown under the bus..

just a side note though.. so what happens now that tawengwa mukuhlani and william chaitezvi are now members of parliament, does the zc constitution allow a politician to run things at zc or be in the board and what does the icc also say with regards to that? i remember some 4/5 years back a guy called freddy kapuya was in the cricket committee member and some questions were asked about his political ties and sport, cant remember how it penned out in the end

tough times ahead.. will be really interesting to see who misses out on the central contracts..

http://www.espncricinfo.com/story/_/id/ ... ure-begins

Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) will not renew the contracts of "almost all" of its staff members when they expire at the end of August as the organisation begins a radical financial restructure. Player contracts will be reviewed and agreed next week.

"These are tough times and tough decisions are required to preserve cricket in Zimbabwe," ZC said in a release.

Zimbabwe Cricket remains committed to restarting its domestic season in November, and to hiring a small complement of staff to suit its needs.

The drastic measures are a consequence of the drip-feed of funding ZC will receive from the ICC, who offered ZC a lifeline after their annual conference in June. In essence, ZC will no longer receive two annual payouts like other Member Countries, but funds as needed to prevent over-expenditure and help ZC manage its substantial debt; for instance, the ICC approved a release of funds earlier in the month to pay outstanding player salaries, which have been four months overdue.

The extended non-payment led to five prominent players - Brendan Taylor, Graeme Cremer, Sikander Raza, Craig Irvine and Sean Williams - sitting out the T20 triangular series against Australia and Pakistan and five-match ODI series against Pakistan. Taylor had committed himself to "getting back to work" once payments are made. Zimbabwe's next assignment is three ODIs and three T20s against South Africa, starting from the end of September.

Can someone explain to me how the money received from the ICC annually isn't more than enough to cover the costs of running cricket in Zimbabwe? The costs must surely be quite low, its not like we have lots of big money players and the costs of running domestic cricket would be rather minimal.

Vince Hogg left them with $10 mill in the bank when we were earning far less than we are now.
My question is why ICC knowingly continue to give money to thieves year in and year out. It’s not like we contribute anything to cricket. The cricketing world needed us before, but with so many countries fast improving we’re superfluous to requirements, we literally offer nothing now.
With us hosting the qualifiers they blatantly skinned ICC under their noses and they did absolutely nothing about it. Show us how the $2m was spent. Sure there are some costs we don’t see, but show us the money spent on the grounds. I’d hazard a guess that a large portion disappeared in transport charges, that’s one of their favorites.
These managed payments will only slow them down slightly, they’ll just get more inventive.
They have to go right now, we’re in the death spiral and only urgent fantastic governance will save us, and it has to be coupled to an upturn in the economy.
They must use this opportunity to try and get their staff numbers below that of the players as well
