[Match Thread] Zimbabwe vs South Africa, 2nd ODI

Post by Black Mamba »

Zimbabwe after getting all out for a low total showed some fight with the bowl as they managed to pick up 5 wickets, putting proteas batting line up under pressure.

Zimbabwe will look for 1-1 to keep the series alive

Bowling looks competative, could only defeat the Proteas, if Zimbabwe score 270+.

Will prefer this Playing XI

T Kamunhukamwe
S Mire
H Masakaza
C Ervine
B Taylor
S Williams
R Murray
B Mavuta
W Masakadza
K Jarvis
T Chatara

Chigumbura 27 isn't so much demanding, but his dropped catch cost Zimbabwe. A quickfire 30/35 from Kamunhukamwe can release presssure from the middle order.

270 is a long way away.

Yeah I agree

Even on a flat track I think the pace of Ngidi & Rabada plus the spin and 'trickery' of Tahir would cut Zimbabwe down before they got to 270, unless BT has a big day out. BT is the ultimate flat track bully, if the pitch is flat he can make the best bowlers look second rate.

Pressure on Ervine, Hami & Willy to make some runs. They were all doing really well before BT returned, but since then Hami has only three fifties, Ervine two and Willy one. Also pressure on Elton and Moor who are both warming the seat for Raza, a good score from either player could help secure a middle order spot in BD.

270 means two guys getting really proper scores. At the moment we are generally managing one guy doing it in half the games.

Kamunhukamwe isnt ready in my opinion. This is a serious bowling unit. I think most of the games will be low scoring if we continue getting pitches like that. Its early in the SA season so I guess most pitches will be relatively fresh.

The person who has a real chance of standing up here for me is PJ. Low scoring games suit his type of play as there is no scoreboard pressure. I would move him up the order and drop Ervine to number 6 to deal with Tahir. I would also move Elton up the order to number 5 because he plays pace better than Ervine and Williams. I dont think we will need a finisher in any of these games. I dont think it will get to that point. Ervine and Williams are the best players of spin so the later they come in the better.

I would go with

Mire
Hami
PJ
BT
Elton
Ervine
Williams
Wellington
Mavuta
Jarvis
Chatara

Maybe add Tiripano for Mavuta in the third game if we collapse again

The three drives Moor smashed to the boundary were great to watch. The guy clearly has a lot of natural talent and ability.

I wish Elton wasn't in this side, and Tari was. Honestly, what kind of message is that sending to the younger lads, like Burl as well. Glad Mavuta is in the mixer but from what I saw he looks very raw.

To win we need to take our catches, bat well and one bowler must step up.

This. Showed this to a guy at work and he nodded his head.
