Regardless of Outcome...

Post by Kriterion_BD »

...kudos to Zimbabwe for providing a good solid contest in this Test match. If ZIM wins by 200+ runs, BD can't hide behind the absence of Tamim, Shakib, and Mustafiz for the loss because thats a huge margin of victory in a low scoring game.

At any rate, I'm hella nervous. I'm sure BD fans are shitting their lungis right now. Realistcally this game is 80-20 in favor of ZIM going into Day 4. As a partisan BD fan, I'd inflate our chances to 40-50%, but thats almost entirely not accurate.

Zimbabwe can lose this game, but right now its their game to lose, not Bangladesh's. Of course the following is perhaps the statistically most likely way this game will end:
105.3 Mavuta to Mushfiqur Rahim, OUT, Mushfiq what on Earth have you done! This is a terrible delivery. Worst of the match surely...perhaps the worst in the history of winning wicket-taking balls in Test match history. Had he missed, this would have been called a leg side wide. THAT's how bad this ball is, but Mavuta gets his maiden Test match wicket and what a way to get it. Firstly, its a full toss. Secondly its just in front of short leg's grill. Mushy's eyes light up. He winds up. Swings. Connects straight off the meat of the bat. Has elevation. Too much elevation and Chatara standing on the deep midwicket boundary takes a simple catch without even needing to move one step. He's 12 inches inside the boundray rope. Bangladesh just needed a two singles with the well set Mushfiqur Rahim on strike and he goes for an all mighty six. Had he left it, Bangladesh would have sealed the chase with a 2 run wide. UNBELIEVABLE. First there was Bengaluru. Now Sylhet. Surely, Bangladesh fans have had enough. Zimbabwe win by 1 run. Bangladesh 320 all out.

Not sure about others, but it's a little tiring being the guys who, 'put up a galant fight and gave a contest' rather than being a team that should be challenging and being consistent.

Even commentators don't really want to, but they all do. Was watching the Aus vs SA game the other day and Graeme Smith was saying that the SA team did have some game time against Zim before the Aus series, but you could hear in his voice that it was almost like the game time was not up to the standard expected not just from SA, but of Zim. It's like he knows there is quality and opportunity, but its wasted. It is also just falling short of saying that playing Zim is kind of easy for the big teams because we just crumble and do not put up a fight.

i think alot of it though that zimbabwe wont win this test, But Bangladesh who have lost it. Most of our wins are picked up like this.

Test cricket is often this way though. Just showing up and doing the basics gives you a 50% chance of a victory/draw.
