2018 ZCF XI

Post by eugene »

2018 is at an end and that means it is time for the end of year honours, and there is no higher honour than being selected to the ZCF XI. This is the seventh year the ZCF XI has been chosen! The selection methods remain inspired by ZC.

Previous years lineups can be found at the links below:

2018 ZCF XI

1. TapsC: Taking on the mantle left by pariah's departure, TapsC is rumoured to be black and therefore opens the batting. Will make way for conant as the black opener if conant ever returns to form.
2. The Robot: In what is a rather less than reliable opening partnership, The Robot joins with TapsC at the top of the order. Robot seems like an ok guy, the problem is that he only has one shot - the reverse sweep - which he plays every. single. ball. He occasionally scores a run or two with the reverse sweep but mostly swings and misses. Can somebody please teach him a second shot to play?
3. CrimsonAvenger: The leading run scorer, Crimson continues to pile up the runs and has not lost the enthusiasm for losing to all and sundry. He got so used to losing he even lost his camera this year.
4. brmtaylor.com: Took a further pay increase this year and thus moved down the order. Reinstated as captain for the World Cup for which we didn't qualify.
5. zimfan1: Used to cheering the boys on from the phpBB Bar, zimfan1 has been promoted to the starting lineup as wicketkeeper/batsman. The biggest question mark around his selection is who will now cheer from the sidelines?
6. ZIMDOGGY: Father time is really catching up with the DOGG who has barely been able to sniff out a run this year and lost the gloves to zimfan1. It might be time for him to be put down, or go into a highly paid management position within the ZCF hierarchy.
7. foreignfield: A new selection this year, foreignfield makes the cut due to his ability to play in overseas conditions, even if that ability is limited to German wickets. Perhaps he knows of some boozers league T20 cricket in Bavaria in October?
8. Mueddie28: A specialist tailender who doesn't bat, bowl, or field. What does this guy do exactly? Will probably be captain in a few years.
9. Googly: A ever constant in the side, despite his weekly proclamations of the game disappearing in three days time. Seems to encourage young talent to head overseas and forego the glory of playing for the ZCF XI.
10. jaybro: An express chinaman bowler, jaybro is looking forward to bowling to conant in the nets if he ever returns. TapsC will have to make do for now.
11. Jemisi: A selection shocker this year. Jemisi has been recast as an express pace bowler by the new ZCF coach who is obsessed with unearthing the next Daniel Jackiel or Mark Olonga. Seems to be more relaxed now that maehara and his axe have disappeared.

Coach: sloandog: A shock appointment as coach, sloandog has already made his presence felt by plucking zimfan1 out of the bar and putting him behind the stumps and re-purposing the otherwise anonymous Jemisi into a tear-away quick. Rumour has it that sloandog is looking to turn everyone in the team into a pace bowler.

Selector: eugene: Looking for the quieter life, eugene has moved into the role of selector, a job which he can do remotely from the USA. It's not like any domestic cricket is played from which to select players from anyway so what's the difference?

Doctor: Dr_Situ (ZimFanatic): The good "doctor" retains his role and has even completed year one of medical school after his credentials were found out to be forgeries in 2017. Has instituted a new regimen of two meals per day at KFC in an effort to improve player fitness which is being stretched by coach sloandog's pace program.

Administrator: anusha_gamage & tawac: A combined effort. Anusha_gamage has been appointed by the ICC to provide meticulous expert oversight from afar (Sri Lanka), meanwhile tawac is the local government-endorsed grifter.

Player Representative: Kriterion_BD: As the newly appointed Player Rep, Kriterion spends most of his time trying to lure ZCF talent to play in shadowy Two2 leagues in the subcontinent. It is felt that the 2-over format is the future of cricket.

Changes from 2017:
pariah: Long gone from ZCF, but still contacts eugene now and again to offer the truth which is really really nice. Really.
Andybligzz: Retired early, rumoured to be making a return on April 1, 2019. For now the V8 stays in the garage.
maehara: Completely disappeared in 2018, having not been heard from since January. Has he been kidnapped by government agents? Is he a government agent? Are the Russians involved? So many questions!
Neil Johnson, Alistair Campbell, Murray Goodwin, Andy Flower (w), Grant Flower, Dave Houghton, Guy Whittall, Heath Streak (c), Andy Blignaut, Ray Price, Eddo Brandes

Well done again Eugene 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

I will say though I like TapsC despite our early disputes and I also like Conant despite us never agreeing on anything, how ever I was always happy to bowl beamers at Hhm 😁

Oh how you are wrong Eugene 😂
The Zimbabwe Cricket team have found Ebola in one of their members, but they're not concerned because they have also found Ebatsmen and Efielda!

Nice one, and humbled to be back in the side after missing out the last two seasons -- a bit of a Chigumbura-esque comeback with little meaningful contributions in recent times behind me.

Very happy to be recalled, I feel that I have take up the Malcolm Waller role, in and out of the side year on year.

Drinking into the dark hours of the night with sloandog has paid off. Or was it those photos I have of him? ;)
