India Tour in doubt

Post by kudet »

http://www.espncricinfo.com/story/_/id/ ... tour-doubt

The announcement of the dates for this year's IPL has put Zimbabwe's tour of India in March in doubt, and the visit may be restructured, postponed or even cancelled entirely. While no dates had been settled upon for Zimbabwe's visit, the tour was scheduled to take place at some point in March, and include a Test and three one-day internationals.

However, India's tour of Australia and New Zealand concludes on 10 February, after which Australia's trip to India for two T20Is and five ODIs runs from 24 February to 13 March. With this year's IPL due to start on March 23, that leaves only 10 days to squeeze Zimbabwe in.

ESPNcricinfo understands that Zimbabwe Cricket managing director Givemore Makoni will meet with his counterparts at the BCCI this week to discuss the tour, with the possibility that it could be restructured to include only ODIs and T20Is, or to agree on a possible postponement.

The ODIs against Zimbabwe had been tabled as part of India's preparation for the World Cup in England. Zimbabwe visited India for the World T20 in 2016, the World Cup in 2011 and the Champions Trophy in 2006, but their trip penciled in for March would have been their first for a bilateral series since 2002.

No point playing 2 or 3 meaningless T20s... Will be better if they post pone the tour to right after WC, just before India travel to Windies, and they can schedule it in Zimbabwe so that ZC can get some money.

The tour will probably be cancelled with the BCCI making a payment to ZC hierarchy as compensation.

India had already announced ages ago that Zimbabwe's tour of India would be 3 T20Is in March. That can still happen, although it seems more likely now that the tour will be postponed or cancelled.

A handout from the BCCI is exactly what ZC would want, incoming cash and no outlay is perfect for their new business model which is 'play less cricket'

Their great plan to get ZC back in the black is to play as little cricket as possible so they can use the ICC funds to pay back the debt, how the ICC agreed to that shows how little they actually care.

+1.

This news was already doing rounds many months ago. BCCI might throw those 3 inconsequential T20Is at ZC and even save the money they might have to give them in case of cancellation. In that case, BCCI would be using an international series as warm up for its domestic series. That's a first. Zim stands to gain nothing out of it :(

Might be true, I read a couple of months ago probably that Zimbabwe will tour India for 3 T20s, I thought the news is mere speculation and ignored, but considering the IPL will start right after the series it can be used by key players as a warm up... 2 T20s against Austealia, followed by 3 against Zim and then the IPL. Possible.

All the talk was that India would tour Zimbabwe instead, I know the easy way to fix this. India & Australia are trying to organise an ODI series prior to the WC for some warm ups, why not have an extended tri series in Zimbabwe? That way the India don’t break any promises, Australia get some match practice & Zimbabwe will make a profit from hosting the two biggest nations in world cricket !!!!

The ZC board needs to show some ambition and make this happen

ZC was supposed to have discussions with BCCI.. what happened to this?

Sadly there is not much interest in India about this series.
