Re: Zimbabwe Squad for Odi Series Against UAE 2019
Zim Squad against UAE: PJ Moor (c), Solomon Mire, Brian Chari, Regis Chakabva, Sean Williams, Timycen Maruma, Sikandar Raza, Donald Tiripano, Kyle Jarvis, Tendai Chatara, Chris Mpofu, Craig Ervine, Brandon Mavuta, Ainsley Ndlovu, Tony Munyonga, Elton Chigumbura
Hamilton and Taylor out injured as expected. No Burl, No Musakanda
There is still Chigumbura though, in the 16!!! I'm pretty disappointed with this squad to be honest. Has Ndlovu done enough to earn a national call up? Two longer format specialists in Chari and Chakabva make it too. I would definitely play Chari as the keeper in my XI. No point playing both of them in the playing XI.
My XI from this:
Chari (WK)
Mire
Ervine
Raza
Williams
Moor
Maruma / Munyonga
Tiripano
Mavuta
Jarvis
Chatara
The Chairman's XI is more exciting though: Brian Chari (c), Tinashe Kamunhukamwe, Roy Kaia, Dion Myers, Ryan Burl, Tony Munyonga, Richmond Mutumbami, Luke Oldknow, Neville Madziva, Richard Ngarava, Carl Mumba, Ainsley Ndlovu, Wesley Madhevere
Hope Myers, Oldknow, Madhever and Munyonga get game time and show some real talent and get into the national squad to replace some of the unnecessary members there. Oldknow is fresh from a double hundred in SL.

TBH I barely read it, just presumed it was the same old 'old useless failure' rant

Yes disappointing squad even from the initial 27 man squad that was also disappointing
Just going to highlight four selections and offer alternatives -
Chari: 10 ODIs 131 runs @13 S/R 42.95 Average stats and from what he's shown his batting game is too limited for ODI cricket, they've missed a chance to play Kamunhukamwe who's averaging 38 with a strike rate at better than a run-a-ball in his List A Career.
Chakabva: 34 ODIs 454 runs @15 S/R 55.84 Regis has shown time after time he's not an ODI player, 34 games is plenty enough time to prove yourself, although I can see why Murray wasn't picked it really would have been the best chance to give him a go.
Tiripano: 24 ODIs 20 wickets @44.25 Eco 5.88 Great servant but has hit his ceiling and really in this series I can't see the point in playing him when we could have given Ngarava or Mumba a chance, both guys are a bit raw but they're young and have some pace
Chigumbura: Since his return 8 ODIs 111 runs @18 At almost 34 years old with such little output with the bat and zero with the ball how can he be a better option than Mashinge??? Mashinge has loads of potential and plenty of 'tomorrows' where Elton has none of.
The issue is playing against the UAE it's likely these guys will do ok and sneak into the next ODI tour of Europe as well where their limitations will be shown up, I think they've really missed a trick here. The only reasoning I can see is that these guys have done well domestically so I guess the selectors have rewarded that.

A part of me is not surprised with some of those selections. You begin to stop expecting after a while with ZC. Any other side and Chigumbura would have been dropped about 2 years ago and never thought of again.

Oh! I did not realize the absence of Kamu in the main squad. Pretty sad...

Friendship quota is still active.
Chigumbura after massive failure in his comeback still finding a place. Maruma's selection is like that of Zhuwao, not fit for international level. Tsiga is better batsman and wicket keeper then Chakabva. No Musakanda, Masvaure despite performing
Ryan Burl, victim of racial politics was not selected in domestic cricket to show his performance

Burl played enough limited overs matches this season to prove he deserves his spot, in fairness you just couldn’t deny Maruma his chance despite the fact I don’t think he’s cut out for it he definitely deserved it.Stoneman Returns wrote: ↑Mon Apr 08, 2019 4:24 am

What’s sad is my prediction is everyone is basically going to hope Elton fails (including me) because it’s blatantly obvious he shouldn’t and doesn’t deserve to be there.
Selectors have ruined the memory of a player that could have been looked back on fondly.

Been reading closely but haven’t needed to comment everyone has said my thoughts for me same old crap, perfect time to blood some youth and some young exciting talent ... but nope . Regis , Elton , Maruma all given handout games when they are proven failures. Play the kids and build a solid squad for the next 5-8 years . Can’t make the World Cup , what is the point of these fossils.
The Zimbabwe Cricket team have found Ebola in one of their members, but they're not concerned because they have also found Ebatsmen and Efielda!
Re: Zimbabwe Squad for Odi Series Against UAE 2019
Agree 100% I actually stop myself when I'm ranting about him because he was probably my favourite player post rebel era along with BT & Ed Rainsford. I was always a big believer in both his batting and bowling and would push his case on here regularly for both. But he really has dropped off big time and now his 'political selection' has made him dis-liked by not only people here on the forum but amongst all Zim cricket fans.ZIMDOGGY wrote: ↑Mon Apr 08, 2019 10:14 amWhat’s sad is my prediction is everyone is basically going to hope Elton fails (including me) because it’s blatantly obvious he shouldn’t and doesn’t deserve to be there.

When the squad was announced on twitter I checked all the comments, 99% were all about him, most in Shona so I couldn't understand it, but I doubt they were singing his praises. Hopefully he announces he'll retire after the t20 WC and has one final 'up-turn' in form and leaves cricket on a high note with some fireworks so he can leave us with some fond memories.
For a guy who's played for so long and captained the side it is really sad to see it all come to this
