ODI Rankings Roundup

Post by maehara »

For those keeping an eye on the rankings:

The current situation at the bottom of the ODI rankings is as follows:

Code: Select all

                Pl Pts Rt
 9 Bangladesh 38 1987 52
10 Zimbabwe 41 1389 34
11 Ireland 7 167 24
12 Kenya 14 28 2
If we win against Sri Lanka tomorrow, Zimbabwe would go to 42/1513/36; if we lose, 42/1413/34. Either way, we've made tenth place our own and opened up a decent lead over Ireland in eleventh. Or so you would think.

Zimbabwe's next ranking matches look set to be a series against South Africa in September. Between now and 16th July, though, Ireland have 4 ranking ODIs to play: one each against Australia and Kenya, and two against Bangladesh. If they were to win all those matches, Ireland would be on 11/533/48 - well ahead of us again and, if other results go against Bangladesh, past the Tigers and into ninth place. Even if they lose to Australia and win the other three - not too much of a stretch - they'll be on 11/433/39 and ahead of Zimbabwe again. No resting on our laurels yet, then..!

Providing we get enough matches against major teams (i.e. not Kenya and Bermuda) I predict that within two years we will crack the top 8 of the rankings and be above Bangladesh who never seem to make any progress, and the West Indies who seem to be in a terminal decline.

Don't knock matches against Kenya - they're easy ranking points! :D

Ya but people won't look upon them as solid performances against good sides, opposed to the current Tri-series

i am surprised Bangladesh are not too far away from us on points, i think we should just concentrate on our game rather than the rankings. Just winning games is what we need.
